thursday november 2 1972 the tribune page m5 uxbridge twp elections councillors undecided uxbridge twp rookie councillors may be in the majority on uxbridge township council after the municipal elections in december so far only two sitting members have definitely indicated they will seek re election bob nesbitt will attempt to retain his position as reeve as well as contest the post of warden for ontario county darcy higgins will campaign for his council seat undecided yet are councillors frank hendy clark muirhead and deputy reeve don jackson mr hendy at last contact strongly favored running for ontario county board of education regardless of what decision is made on regionalization mr muirhead in dicated that he wished y to give the question of his candidacy more consideration mr jackson ex pressed a wish to step out if one of his colleagues would run for deputy reeve he felt that if reeve nesbitt is successful in his bid for warden his deputy would have to be prepared to take on more responsibility and devote more time to township affairs than the pressures of business would permit him to spend he concluded that he felt it an obligation to the township that the position be held by an experienced coun cillor asks review of tax exemptions york region two buildings exempt from municipal taxes received comment at regional council meeting oct 26 bill lazenby mayor of richmond hill speaking from the ultramod council chambers new market asked that the financial committee look into assessment on the building i think it a gross injustice that the region doesnt pay taxes on it he stated if you have a regional building in your municipality there should be some remuneration for it some members argued that the building provided a public service in the area it would be as much sense to tax the firehall commented mayor garnett williams town of vaughan mayor dick illingworth aurora suggested a reciprocal arrangement where by the town of newmarket could use the building an analysis of the facilitys use potential is to be made later in the agenda mayor ken laushway recorded his point-of- view regarding stouffvilles parkview home which was accorded tax exempt status in a court ruling oct 18 the home is a wonderful place he emphasized we dont think it should be taxed locally but there should be some form of government grant or subsidy to the municipality in which it is located iratcliff lumber unionville gormley 2971661 8881991 hwy 7 at kennedy kd don mills kd at gormley ff op thursday friday to 9 pm recessed light fixtures a j fine fishing f dusty is growing faster than his master dear jim i was interested in the article in the tribune concerning the use of school gymnasiums for recreation purposes by the public this ties in very nicely with another area of concern ot the york county board of education with regard to charges for the use of school facilities that has been hanging fire for what seems to be almost an eternity if i might turn back a number of years to the building of the multipurpose room at orchard park school by the former stouff ville public school board a very similar situation was delt with when a dog shows such strength it begins leading its master then the relationship bet ween the two becomes strained so it is with 8 year old trevor copeman of ballantrae and his lovely collie named dusty but rather than keep the pet tied up all day mr and mrs philip copeman with trevors consent have agreed to give him away trevor has only one request- that the new owner give dusty a good home jim thomas editors mail a minimum of con troversy the solution the board and the municipality of stouffville entered into agreement on the use of the facilities the board felt that the facilities were provided through the taxes of the municipality to begin with and they should be used by those people in the interest of good public relations nonprofit groups were to be permitted free use of the facilities and profitmaking local groups were required to pay an amount equal to the amount necessary to pay the caretakers wages for that period the municipality agreed to help pay for wear and tear if the facilities became worn through use in this manner the issuing of permits for use of the facilities was carried out by the board and were subject to their regulations the only real difference bet ween then and now is that there is a shift system among the caretakers now but there was none then so it was necessary for the caretaker to come back to the school for the event i see no reason why such an agreement could not be worked out between the county board and the stouffville theres lots of fish in them thar lakes ac cording to a report by re sider district forester ministry of natural resources a survey has shown there is a large population of small and largemouth bass in musselmans and preston lakes and that additional stocking will not im prove the angling success mr sider advised council however that restocking will take place if pre spring inspection shows a depletion of bass buy a poppy ivan goudie chairman of the stouffville legions poppy committee has announced that poppy days are friday and saturday nov 3 and 4 and saturday nov 11 regional government to get the maximum use of the equipment and facilities available without the need for duplication the caretaking staff work in shifts so there would be some responsible person on duty who could look after the interests of the school without any serious strain oh the staff or additional cost to the board for overtime mr mckay the trustee is to be commended for his foresight in the matter and should take heart in the knowledge that it actually functioned in stouffville up to 1969 i and many others would welcome its return again it may not make money but it is more beneficial in the long run sincerely jc mcmurray elm road stouffville senior mortgage supervisor an excellent opportunity for
