surgery friday in york county hospital newmarket woodbridge for miss irene reesor walter and rae pipher for mr and mrs a dixon markham mrs caroline peirce main street north markham celebrated her 100th birthdav july 21 she could pass for a lady of 65 and she thinks as young as she looks a cheery smile lighting up the room in a tidy- two storey house where she resides with her sister phyllis while the past all 100 years of it is im portant mrs peirce is very much a part of the present and looks forward with en thusiasm to the future she enjoys watching television particularly the news i want to know what the world is doing she exclaimed with a twinkle in her eye im not quite on the shelf yet no one will argue she walks up and down steps and stairs without assistance and keeps busy with regular household chores caroline or carrie as she is known to her neighbor friends was born near brighton in sussex england accompanied by her husband she came over to canada by boat in 1907 joining her parents and two brothers already here mr peirce passed away in 1929 mrs peirce enjoys travelling and readily admits it wouldnt take too much persuasion to get her on a plane for a trip to some distant point scared she questioned whats there to be scared of mrs peirce moved to markham 22 years ago she readily ad mits the town has changed but notes with some feeling of satisfaction that many of her original friends still live close by folks around here seem to live a long time she observed for grandma peirce a 100th bir thday in 1972 is significant shes the same age as the for mer incorporated village she cut the centennial cake at a celebration last month and was the life of an at home party july 23 on the lawn at the rear of her home among those attending was mayor tony roman she received a message of congratulations from the queen the tribune is pleased to add its best wishes too mrs myrtle dowswell born at gooderham stouffville on july 25 myrtle dowswell passed away quietly at forest glen nursing home rr3 newmarket born at gooderham in 1897 the daughter of mr and mrs jesse tindall she was well known in the stouff ville and goodwood areas besides mr arthur dowswell her husband of more than fifty years she leaves a daughter erma mrs g smyth of toronto two sons george of scarboro and roy of stouffville and six grandchildren her eldest daughter ruth passed away in 1939 other members of her family well known to the area are sisters jennie mrs vincent wagg vira mrs irving lockie and brothers earl and lome tindall mrs dowswell was predeceased by a sister elvorene mrs f nixon of lions head and a brother berton of mount albert following the ser vice conducted by rev jas carder at the oneill funeral home she was laid to rest in the family plot at
