angry outburst from councillor merlyn baker june 9 t he planning committee had met with charles ratcliff concerning a plan of subdivision in the lcmonville area mr ratcliff originally gained municipal approval for 20 lots but the project was quashed by the department of municipal affairs a redrafting of the plan giving a total of 8 lots recently obtained cautious approval by the town but mr ratcliff said this would be uneconomical he asked to be allowed to develop twelve the length y discussion which followed centered around approval from senior levels of government chair man tom lonergan expressed doubts that the province would approve more than 8 he also reminded members that the water resources commission has in the past insisted that water be piped in from stouffville to serve the development after mr ratcliff left promising to have his plans redrawn for a 12 lot development committee members continued lo discuss the project mr baker was sharply critical of provincial i n terference in such cases i think were in bad trouble if we cant even approve a small markham rejects jr a m a r k h a m markham seal a wax is one of three clubs in the local junior b loop to turn mr mayor retorted mr baker he went on to criticize the suggestion of pumping water to that location from stouffville terming the idea childish while other members were not so forceful in their views there was some sentiment in iavor of the original 20 lot development mr ratcliff is to submit his new site plan at a future planning committee meeting hopefully with representatives of the regions
