sessions members heard reports from the committees and special music was provided the guest speaker dr hal mcbain of the for ward baptist church toronto addressed the gathering the associations executive remains unchanged from 1971- 72 goodwood it was o n c e m o r e aroundthetrack in the gokart debate when participants met june 12 at the uxb idge township council meeting predictably the ground covered was the same as before when mrs bell of goodwood kartways and her solicitor b s onyschuk confronted council in an effort to retain the 10 pm closing hour at the track instead of the 9 pm weekday7 pm sunday deadline set down in a proposed by law governing gokart operations in the township again council stated the new time restrictions were a compromise to protect residents in the area from prolonged noise again the kartways rep resentatives ar gued that noise levels were not ex cessive and that a cut back in operational hours would cause them serious financial loss in this respect mr onyschuk informed council that the track after going bankrupt had only been paid for over the last two years in 1971 he added mr and mrs bell sustained a 500 loss mr onyschuk reported on a suggestion made at a previous meeting the feasibility of building a berm around the track to alleviate noise he said it would cost s7500 to erect an earth barrier and that financially it would put them up against a stone wall he suggested the relocation of the track to the north of the present one where the contours of the land would form a natural berm but pointed out the enormity of the financial and legal aspects of such a move the debate inevitably ran full circuit back to the operating hours of the track mrs bell questioned the goodwill of council and firmly asserted we had faith in you i cant say we have any more mr onyschuk expanded on this you become supercautious about expending money when youre not too sure of he goodwill lie commented h magill and g lauterbach neighbors of the bells criticized the noise generated by machines and questioned in turn the goodwill of kartways short end in ward 1 pickering twp a former councillor for ward 1 vic rudik feels his area is not getting a fair deal mr rudik appeared at a meeting of council in committee june 12 as spokesman for the ward 1 community association he spoke of large sums of money being spent in such areas as bay ridges and west rouge while little is done in ward 1 where are the parks and athletic fields in our ward he asked he specifically requested council to study the possibility of extending gotrain service into that area towards them they were emphatic however that they had no wish to see the bells go out of business mr onyschuk was asked to make his presentation in writing with an outline of the long- term objectives of the gokart operation he will be invited to at tend the next meeting at which council will make its decision councillors felt the criticisms were not wholly justified several projects in the ward 1 area were mentioned and mr rudik was told that plans for the future will provide more services in his area there was general agreement that a survey should be carried out in ward 1 to determine the need for services seek compensation for road damage markham town council is going to seek compensation from the province because of construction work on highway 7 a resolution was put forward at a meeting june 13 stating that the construction work is causing increased traffic loads on other municipal roads for that reason the town is requesting the department of transportation communications to supply extra subsidy specifically for work on 16th avenue bet ween 5 and 6 i understand this has been done in other municipalities ob served mayor tony roman some discussion on the type and extent of assistance to be requested occupied council briefly the motion to seek extra maintenance funds passed and will be forwarded to the dt c sr citizens week living is ageless stouffville living is ageless is the theme for the period june 18 to 2j designated as senior citizens week in- ontario in todays youth oriented society we tend to think that real living is only for the young and that life loses much of its meaning and purpose with the encroachment of old age hopefully the challenge of senior citizens week will remind us not only that with proper preparation life in old age can be satisfying and meaningful but also of our senior citizens who are growing old gracefully and with dignity especially during this week staff and management of park view home wish to express thanks and appreciation to the j senior citizens in our home and also in the community for the contribution they are making to our own lives homes for the aged such as parkview are one answer as society seeks satisfactory living accommodation and care for its senior citizens those of us who live and work at parkview welcome suggestions from the people of the com munity as to how we can make our home and community a better place in which to live we do very much appreciate the help and community is giving in the following ways many local businesses as well as interested individuals have given generous financial help volunteers are donating their time for visitation and other services and are providing tran sportation of residents to shopping facilities senior citizen clubs medical centres and hospitals and helping in the craft room local physicians give generously of their time and professional know ledge in treating and reassuring our residents and give counsel in the operation of the home we especially recognize dr john button our home physician who gives invaluable assistance local pastors who assist so very generously and capably in the spiritual ministry of our residents the many persons who have helped us in other ways and who offer us their good wishes and moral support to all of these we say thank you we invite you our readers to
