your horn a real crowd pleaser bv mark xiblett stouffville the stouffville players latest production come blow your horn played recently to large audiences and proved a real crowd- pleaser the neil simon play was well staged with sets and costumes providing an accurate picture of a new york bachelors apartment people of all ages enjoyed the production i was a little sur prised to see several young children there but while some of the dialogue went over their heads they obviously enjoyed most of it the cast turned in a fine performance much of the credit for this must go to gordon ness who had by far the largest role mr ness gave a smooth and competent por trayal of the swinging bachelor despite a few awkward moments his hand motions were oc casionally distracting and i had the distinct impression that he was slightly embarrassed during the romantic scenes erica dhillon as a dumb broad gave a good performance marred only by a certain stiffness she and some of the other actors would be much more convincing if they learn to relax and enjoy their parts more larry williams playing the swingers younger brother was affected by the same problem stiffness with more exposure however he will become one of the companys most competent actors frank steel was outstanding as the father i cant decide whether he or marie clubine as the jewish mother should win top laurels both por trayed stereotypes but made them con vincing they were more jewish than most jewish couples i know and obviously enjoyed themselves onstage one minor dif ficulty appeared when the two younger members of the family mr ness and mr williams seemed to be unsure if they were jewish or not some of their phrases and gestures were highly ethnic some were straight brooklyn and others were rather anonymous this may have been a problem in the script colleen withers competently played the role of the serious girlfriend but at times appeared far too serious and a touch brittle while she successfully portrayed a rather difficult character she seemed to suffer from the same restraint noted earlier again practice is the best answer its hard to assess the role of aunt gussie played by carol brodie since hers was a minor walkon the cast and crew put a lot of hard work into this production and are to be com mended for their ef forts although i cant say i was charmed by the stage manager george moores he came close to getting a crack across the kneecap with the in famous tribune 45- pound battery pack however the incident wasnt important enough to mar my enjoyment of the play the players suc ceeded in the main aim of actors everywhere entertaining the audience the con temporary comedy seems to go over well with local townsfolk i hope they continue i also hope they receive sufficient funds for new curtains this too theyve also earned ice fantasia 72 four performances unionville two evening and two af ternoon performances will be included for the presentation of the unionville figure skating
