thursday march 2 1972 the tribune pase mpp donald deacon supports unionville bypass yorkcentre i was most happy to see he reports in last weeks paper about monarch con structions proposal for the land to the north and east of unionville happy because that proposal contained provision for i a by pass that would leave the old part of the village of unionville untouched and divert northbound traffic well away from the historic centre of the village monarch are to be commended for their imaginative and forward looking planning whether or not their plan is finally implemented in its proposed form it does demonstrate that developers and residents can together work for the bet terment of a com munity where there is goodwill on both sides on their action and heartily endorse this resolution but we must keep up the pressure anything which can be done to reduce north and southbound through traffic on the sixth concession should be done for example completion of the pavement on the fifth and seventh con cessions would help to divert traffic to these much less used roads the removal of the signs toronto via unionville from their position at the nor thern end of the sixth concession at the gormley road might also assist in cutting down on through traffic which con tributes nothing to the merchants and residents of unionville except a whiff of exhaust fumes and a little more wear and tear on the road i shall be contacting the appropriate au thorities to see if these signs can be removed it was at a meeting in my living room some four years ago that the bombshell of the feasibility study showing a highway straight through unionville was first tossed into our laps it says a great deal for the dedicated work of many citizens and the interested cooperation of elected represen tatives planners and developers that we are now at a stage where it is the bypass which is favoured late george beverley 5 fseikcw ahqvse becomes a castle the finest in the land fost those who make me
