mrs a glenn thompson the church her life stouffville the congregation of st james presbyterian church in stouffville and the presbyterian church in canada has lost its most dedicated christian ser vant in the passing of mrs a glenn thompson feb 4 in scarboro centenary hospital mrs a glenn thompson mrs thompsons prominence particularly in the field of missions was recognized on a national scale when the new board of world missions was established july 1 1971 it seemed appropriate that she should be named the vice- chairman of all the positions of importance maintained with such devotion within the presbyterian church at large no office gave her more joy or satisfaction as the election to the office of elder at st james a choice of the congregation last spring it marked the first time a lady had been so selected in spite of her ex perience and capabilities she accepted every new responsibility with modesty and restraint she was the kind of person who always placed others in terests ahead of her own she was loved and respected by everyone not only in her church but in the community mrs thompson the former nellie battisby was born at warkworth ontario she was an ac complished pianist and its often been told how she would travel by horse and cutter and then by train to campbellford for in struction she later had classes of her own mr and mrs glenn thompson moved to stouffville thirty years ago her husband a for mer bank manager here survives along with two sons william of trenton glenn ross of clarkson and six grandchildren cathy barbara paul scott lisa and peter at the funeral service held from st james church monday af ternoon presiding pastors rev fred cromey and rev alex adam spoke in tribute of mrs thompsons contributions within the local congregation and the church at large ministers assisting included rev dr louis fowler representing the moderator of the presbyterian church in canada rev george malcolm chairman of the board of world missions and rev homer mcavoy moderator of the east toronto presbytery in lieu of flowers donations were accepted in the name of the womens missionary society a personal wish of the deceased pall bearers were church elders bruce davidson clarence hood alan powell jim thomas clifton morris and murray pipher interment was made in campbellford cemetery twenty one skaters enter competition
