village trustees and ajax boaid of trustees the question of pick ering village securing a supply of water from ajax was again dis cussed and a satisfactory agree ment was reached last week each group was represented by its legal advisor and some lifty or sixty interested persons from the affect- ed area were also present due to the fact that the meeting had been erroneously announced as an open meeting some time was spent in asking and answering questions regarding the proposed water agreement and zoning bylaw at limes tempers were ruined and as it was becom ing increasing difficult to proceed with the business at hand reeve westney requested that all those except the parlies concerned leave the water agreement ami bylaw were then examined and discussed at some length and finally picker ing township passed a resolution permitting pickering village trus tees to enter into an agreement to secure a supply of water supplied by the ajax improvement district to the village of pickering and the high school the bylaw was examined and with certain changes and excep tions agreed upon to be inserted will come up for third reading this week if passed it will then go before the municipal board for public hearing it was evident from the earlier part of the meeting that some opposition can be expected at the public hearing if and when that is held some changes were indicated in the route by which the proposed vater supply would reach picker ing village it is now suggested that connections ba made to a ten in h main located near the old cap ami detonator line m the plant area and then proceed north westerly to the pickering c en and up lauren street piekerr ng consuitins engineers agree on ate ieasio7 o tie plan which should provide adequate pressure in pickering ranged from 3000 to 6000 the council agreed to decide on the vehicle at a special meeting to be held in the near future a representative of the dow chemical co was on hand at the regualr meeting of pickering town ship council to give an estimate on the cost of spraying roadside weeds the council was informed that the price would be approxi mately ssoo per mile this price was given on continuous spraying the council showed some concern over the growth of poison ivy in the township and in order to kill the weed it wasj believed by some of the councillors that spot spray ing was all that would be necessary instead of continuous spraying by the mile it was agreed by the council that the month of june would be the best time to start before the weeds could get a chance to go to seed the represent ative of the chemical co was not prepared to give a price on the cost of weed spraying by the hour the representative informed the coun cil that a 2 id solution would be j used by using a continuous spray the machine could cover some 20 1 miles per day on both sides the i council decided that the dow chemical co should give the coun cil an estimate on the cost per hour before they would decide on anythiu definite e l chapman died on monday prominent in church fraternal agricultural and political circles in the southern part of pickering township for half a century ernest l
