mania helps bring people into community re reinventing a stouffville tra dition dec 12 when i moved to stouffville 18 years ago i was perhaps a poster boy for the sad state of the commut er who sleeps but does not really live in his or her community it was only after joining music mania and meeting my neighbours that i truly felt i was a member of this community i was fortunate enough to meet a lot of kind people and establish some friendships i trust will endure as long as i do while its been a while since i worked that tenor part in the music mania chorus twill always treasure my memories of the many rehears als and shows that brightened so many winter evenings time marches on our town grows and changes and some tradi tions pass but i hope music mania endures and our hewer neighbours can give a little and benefit as much as i have mattdouris stouffwlle toronto politicians should face facts raise taxes its time toronto politicians and taxpayers stopped whining and quit asking the province federal and nearby municipal governments for help an article in the toronto star made a comparison of property taxes of toronto and the surround ing 905 areas based on an assessed value of 300000 as follows toron to 255853 mississauga 300756 oakville 302201 markham 306125 aurora 335673 new market 338066 brampton 358626 pickering 405787 ajax 4 12780 whitby 414408 osha- wa 512771 its pretty obvious the city of toronto simply has to increase its property taxes to add insult to injury the 905- area municipalities have been forced by the province to subsidize toron to taxpayers by sending money to toronto allegedly to help with the big citys social challenges hal ton sent 41 million york region 79 million and peel about 60 million according to an article in the dec 7 toronto star apparently this toronto grab will be phased out over the next seven years but why not imme diately sure toronto has social prob lems but so do all the other areas and toronto has a much higher commercial and industrial base from which it derives huge tax revenues toronto bite the bullet and be prepared for a catch up increase on your property tax bills all 905 municipalities should fight hard to stop the unfair trans fer of funds to toronto immedi ately donald j cameron stouffville high school choir brightened seniors day at the seniors christmas party in the whitchurchstouffville library dec 12 we were enter tained by the girls choir from stouffville district secondary school what a wonderful group of girls they were these days not much good is said about teenagers such as those in the choir a delightful group which obviously really enjoyed what it was doing it brightened our day and light ened our hearts to hear them sing ing and i hope well be around to see and hear them next christ mas marion dissette whitchurchstouffville snowdrifts blocking rural mailboxes canada post claims it is danger ous for staff to deliver mail directiy to homes in rural areas in february it set up commu nity mailboxes and endangered all residents because of the placer ment of the boxes the boxes in our neighbour hood are at the northwest comer of st johns sideroad and wood bine avenue it is a busy intersection and there is not enough room to pull over to retrieve mail safely even in good weather now with the latest snow storm it is downright perilous to get mail but i guess its a moot point because we havent received any mail for the last two days anyway it is now impossible to retrieve mail or for the letter carriers to deliver any to us based on a call i made to can ada post there is a question as to whose job it is to shovel out the mailboxes and until that is sorted out the mailboxes will remain as they are i guess i wouldnt mind a delay in receiving the latest visa state ment but im sure im not alone in having ordered christmas gifts via the internet and not getting them in time well i guess ill have to go to the mall after all monica frohmann whitchurchstouffville human rights code there to protect children re reasonable accommodation has limit editorial dec 13 the human rights code is not just a piece of paper it is the law under the code a reasonable accommodation especially one that has been in place and working well for five years to protect children with deadly allergies has no limit unless it is deemed to cause undue hardship on the school board which is clearly not the issue the monitoring was as simple as a sticky note attached to a lunch bag declaring it allergenfree there was no cost to the board and no instructional time was taken up accommodations for children with deadly allergies at st stephen school were removed after a change in administration and after the mother of a child with a deadly allergy unsuccessfully challenged the local school trustee during the 2006 municipal election parents of these children did offer to volunteer as monitors but were refused the human rights code pro tects children with deadly aller gies and ensures they are not at the mercy of a political agenda an administrative change or a differ ence of opinion ralph capocci vaughan letters policy the suntribune welcomes your
