transformed into an unusual art object by stouffvilles sandra cole burke she has been turning the slice from the tree into a woodblock for prmtmaking over the past few weeks she is one of the 34 watercolour paintings pottery jewelry stained glass and other media in 24 locations throughout the town the love of- jo coffee house is exhibiting the works of artists on the tour throughout october stouffville picture framing will have a sample of the potters and jewellers work during this time mrs burke has been carving out ail abstract design on the wood block for several weeks using hand and power carving tools to see how this relatively rare art form is created visit the lobby of the latcham gallery and care and share thrift store tuesdays and fridays between 2 and 4 pm mrs burke is working on the project to give people a chance to see the process in action it is one of the more abstract images she has worked on she said and the piece will be inscribed with a variety of organic forms that appear in nature the circular piece of wood is interesting because the growth rings are clearly visible the artist also enjoys creating watercolour landscapes many of them painted outdoors during the tour she will show landscapes painted during her trav els across canada she will also show intuitive watercolours this process involves dropping colour on to paper when it is wet covering it with clear plas tic until the paper dries and then working on the images that appear the studio tour from 10 am to 5 pm both days visitors can enter a free draw for a 200 artwork by one of the tour and was hooked she said for five years she attended an equestrian summer camp then at age 15 acquired her own horse a thoroughbred mare now retired and stabled at pt bolster calyn was purchased six years ago they entered hunterjumper competitions at various locations including palgrave collingwood barrie and pickering with considerable success in 2004 she finished 20 points below a reserve national cham pionship a year later she was a provin cial reserve champion then came the switch the improvement was incredible erin said my trainer believed in me and encouraged me to believe in
