residents on hemlock drive and other stouffville streets were caught off guard by changes to town of whitchurchstouffville recycling policies this week the recyclables they put on the curb in plastic bags as usual werent picked up you can no longer put shredded paper newspa pers or other recyclables out on the curb in plastic bags even the plastic sleeves the newspapers are delivered in everything must go in a blue recycling box residents called the suntribune and town offices saying they didnt know about the change one woman brought her rejected and bagged recy cling to the newspaper office the first notice of the change was on the town page in thursdays suntri bune theres also information on the town website townofwscom in addition drivers pick ing up recycling were sup posed to put information stickers on plastic bags they didnt pick up the region sent a letter about the change to whitchurchstouffville three weeks ago said mike birett manager of waste diversion for the regions waste management branch the town of whitchurchstouffville found out about the change around a week ago an employee with the public works department said plastic bags will no longer be accepted for recycling at regional facili ties because they get caught in the recycling machinery which then has to be stopped and cleaned we need to get the message out to residents that we cant take recyclables
