has received the highest honour bestowed on an executive in the ontario trucking industry don anderson founder and president of don anderson haulage ltd of stoufiville was presented with the 2006 ontario trucking associationtrailmobile service to business mr anderson began his career in the trucking industry working for his father from whom he purchased his first truck the industry award at the associa tions 80th annual convention in toronto friday the award honours an individ ual who by his commitment vision leadership and unstinting service has made an outstanding contribution to the development and success of the truck transporta tion industry in ontario the selection was made by a panel of mr andersons peers most of whom are previous winners the award is an attractive charcoal por trait of the recipient anderson haulage specializes in the movement of overdimensional loads in ontario together with his wife and business partner maris don has been an active supporter of ota for more than 25 years serving on the board of directors of the association and its heavy special ized carriers division for many of those years over the years don and maris have been fixtures at the ota convention and have partici pated in many study missions abroad mr anderson began his career in the trucking industry working for his father from whom he purchased his first truck things went very well for young donnie and two years later he had four power units to his name by 1965 the year he incorporated don anderson haulage ltd he had opened a yard and shop at the east end of stoufiville to house his expanding fleet shortly thereafter don inked a deal with a ready mix concrete com pany that would give him a solid base for his growing fleet of gravel trucks later he added the move ment of over dimensional loads to his companys offerings the thriving company soon out grew its quarters and by 1979 con struction began on a new facility which is its current location in west- end stoufiville the company is poised to begin construction on a new home in gormley construction should be complete in 2007 mr anderson has always been considered an innovator in the industry and most currently in the large load business the companys big blue trucks are fixtures at work sites and on highways throughout ontario when the opportunity for added growth in the specialized carrier division came around he traveled to germany where he purchased the first of what would be several multiwheeled transporters this equipment enabled the company to tackle even larger over dimen sional moves as the jobs became larger and more complicated and the province increased demands and restrictions on the size of loads on the road mr anderson had the foresightto cre ate a strategic alliance with a railway which resulted in the continued growth the company enjoys today eighteen of mr andersons driv ers have 20 years or more of service the third generation is poised to begin its careers at the familyrun business with the company and six of those have been with the company for more than 30 years the andersons four children mike liz jane and sue have all worked for the company at one time
