writer the stouffville district secondary school spartans girls varsity hockey team set a high standard last year after claiming the ontario federation of school athletic associations aa sil ver medal raising the bar to a near elite sta tus might appear to be a monumen tal task for this years spartans squad to attain but so far they are on the right track through five york region ath letic association regular season contests the spartans are undefeat ed posting two wins and three ties including a pair of 11 draws over the last week against aurora high school and markham district high school although the club lost some key players from last years squad spar tans head coach dan mcconnachie feels his charges can contend for the yraa title i think our chances to win are as good as any others in our loop there are any number of teams who could win it all sacred heart is very good as are the teams from aurora and markham we have had close games against all three that have resulted in ties he said while the spartans did lose some key players from last years club they also retained some valuable performers including forwards hayley hughes heather hughes and ashley mclellan goalie liz knox who attended the recent under18 girls national champi onships in british columbia most pleasing to mcconnachie though has been the play of some new faces who have stepped to the front mcconnachie was quick to empha size that all of the players have con tributed to the clubs early season suc cess this he feels will make his club bet ter in the long run no one player stands above the
