injuries fatigue it wasnt pretty by any stretch of the imagination but mondays 56 win by the stouffville district secondary school spartans senior boys rugby club over the host markham district high school marauders is something they will gladly accept the victory by the spartans enabled them to grab first place in- the york region athletic association tier one standings with a 20 record were school in richmond hill by jim thomas correspondent chris large learned a lot about playing hockey during his time in the richmond hill minor organi zation with the provincial junior a hockey leagues stouffville spirit arid at the collegiate levelas a member of the university of ottawa geegees now he wants to give back what hes learned from the game with assistance from fellow 23yearold richmond hill native and minor professional dafcy mcconvey large has created a summer hockey camp for young- sters the star hockey school will be held at elgin barrow arena 43 v church st in richmond hill from july 11 to aug 12 running a hockey school isnt foreign to large who worked at the seneca college hockey school for the last five summers under the direction of former spirit teammate doug orr who plays at mcgill university he also has a level one coaching certifi- cate mcconveys resume is also impressive he played collegiate hockey at bowling green state university for four seasons and was a twotime team scoring leader academic allramerican and team captain during his sen ior year a centre mcconvey played professionally in the- east coast hockey league this past season with the reading royals and columbia scbased columbia inferno as well he was on the bc television hockey reality series making the gut in describing the star hockey school schedule large said it will chris large said will be back on the blades for another 112 hours the camp will conclude at 4 pm the schools top priorities large said will be power skating puck control passing shooting and team play we intend to teach kids the skills techniques attitudes and- respect so important to the game our number one goal will be to provide an enjoyable camp expe- rience said large who played with the spirit iv the 19992000 and 200001 campaigns well fociis on putting kids first he said with an emphasis on hav ing fun at the same time he adds they will teach fundamentals of com petition arid sportsmanship devising the idea of running star hockey school last fall large hopes their school can attract 15 to 20 players per week if the venture proves success ful they plan to continue the camp during the summer of 2006 with the possibility of adding two mo re weeks to the schedule they also intend to operate camps and clinics throughout the winter while large just recently grad uated from the university of ottawa where he majored in busi ness management he has no intentions on returning to active participation in the sport ive decided to hang em up saidlarge who scored one of the biggest
