economist sunsuntribune saturday nov 8 2003 j from frank scarpitti fajj8efii2l f dear neighbours as this municipal election comes to a close i urge every single markham elector to get out arid vote the people that will decide what our town will look like and the quality of life that we will enjoy will be elected on monday in their hands you will place the future of ourtown over the last few years we have grown in an unprecedented manner in my opinion too muchtoo fast traffic is unbearable schools are crowded retirement homes full kids programs overbooked and on and on as each new subdivision is approved the problem gets worse on november 1 0 cast your vote for those men and women who are not afraid to challenge the system not afraid to ruffle a few feathers for my part i have always understood that my allegiance rests solely with the wishes of markham residents not developers not other politicians just you we cannot stop new develop ment but we can do a much better job managing it during this last term i fought hard to defeat a proposed 3000 acre industrial development slated for the north part of markham if it had been approved not only would we have lost some of our best farmland trucks serving the area would have posed a new dangerfor the residents of unionville victoria square cachet buttonville 24 hours a day 7 days a week along with other like-minded- councillors we defeated this proposal but only by the slimmest of votes supporting mass transit environmental concerns keeping the lid on taxes and controlling devel opment are issues i have a solid record on i make a practice to listen to residents during this cam paign i hosted no less than 4 open forums in various parts of ourtown with your support i will con tinue in these quests in the regional council race you have the opportunity to support up to 4 candidates but please if you are onjy sure of the policies of one or a few of them vote accordingly the future of ourtown cannot afford council members who represent nothing other than themselves that been saidthere are good men and women seeking your support please get to know them and let them know how you feel about the issues in closing please accept my sincere thanks for your staunch support over the last 1 5 years my fam ily and the town of markham are my two passions and if you cast your vote for me on monday i pledge to you my unconditional commitment to work solely on your behalf 1 frank scarpitti regional councillor deputy mayor ps if i get the most votes for the position of regional councillor i will retam the position of deputy mayor a position i have been proud to represent for 7 years please vote and help me keep our town the best in ontario tt i
