secondary school the heart and stroke found ation seemed a good fit when the foundation offi cials learned samanthas story they convinced her to open their annual markham mother daughter walk for heart and stroke this sunday as a guest speaker she was diagnosed at birth with dextracardia a condition which means her heart was flipped to the right she also had a hole in her heart called a vsd in combination the two problems are often sugges tive of a syndrome where vital organs could be missing in infants i learned afterward the cardiologist told the pediatri cian to call a priest or rabbi samanthas mom wendy wynne said usually kids with those problems die it turned out samantha did not have me lifethreat ening syndrome but when she was three another hole was found this one more serious called an asd it required open heart surgery after surgery samantha developed fluid buildup around the heart and needed another operation to drain it it was a very stressful time mrs wynne said only after its over can you really think about it and then you can go crazy today samantha is on her high school basketball team and trying out for the swim team she dances at the vibe studio and enjoys y snow- boarding and wakeboarding shes taking driving les sons and she denies having a boyfriend shes a regularl6- yearbld girl who doesnt think her mom is cool even if she went to woodstock she doesnt care about that mrs wynne said laughing mrs wynne wanted to join samantha on the walk rather than just watch her speech she said i felt we should both be participating it made sense to do it together its a way to give back in her speech samantha will tell her story and explain why donations are so impor tant i feel blessed to have been bom at a time when i could benefit from the new tech niques
