feet for despite the fact she stands only 5feet4 inches tall shes considered one of the top female volleyball players in ontario however her involvement in the game isnt restrict ed to spiking a ball setting or serving up points shes also been busy off the hardwood court the stouffville resident was recently honoured with an award naming her as an outstanding contributor to womens volleyball in ontario the presentation hosted by the ontario volleyball association board of directors was held in toronto moddejonge looks on the award as a great honour the former jane walker grew up on a volleyball court playing with teams from hunters glen and charles gordon public schools in scarborough and later at uxbridge secondary school at uxbridge she was voted the schools out standing female volley ball player five years in a row following graduation she played in a volleyball league at aurora she also participated in tourna ments across ontario for 10 years she per formed with a club team out of pickering in the ontario volleyball association in 1997 the ova requested she serve as a player volunteer in a 32team league that runs from midoctober to midmay in addition to playing she arranges the playing facilities and officials due to rental fees teams have been forced out of the greater toronto area she says and this has reduced player participation she notes operating a team costs between 1500 and 2000 a year most players are ex- university students with some coming from national and provincial levels i love the sport moddejonge says i intend to keep playing as long as i have the legs following retirement from active participation she hopes to remain in the sport by doing some coaching jane moddejonge earns out standing contributor award from ontario volleyball life the facility constructed in 1957 and donated to the town by art latcham opens officially on friday in time for strawberry festival weekend saturday is a free swim day thanks to sponsorship by the stouffville missionary church micole ongman whitchurchstouffvilles commu nity programmer says the outdoor pool suits a cross- section of adults and children who prefer freshair swims but sooner or
