dispatchers ms mccauley said thats 10 staffers fewer than are now employed at three existing centres in vaughan richmond hill and markham ms mccauley also predicted lower administration and capi tal costs for an amalgamated call centre staffing costs are estimated at 16 million less than the 25 million the three dispatch centres will cost to staff according to projections hopes have been expressed that most of those staff reductions can be covered by attrition but it is still a con cern for firefighters unions if we decide to proceed with this the biggest implication is to labour region cao michael garrett said he added however that as the region grows and greater demands are placed on the system new positions will be cre ated for dispatchers supervisors and other staff at the call centre i would think there are going to be opportunities for redeployment in that area mr garrett said firefighters representatives have been involved in talks on the issue but are not commenting on any concerns they may have about staffing levels right now centralized fire dispatch would eventually be based in a call centre also housing 91 1 and police dispatchers the potential savings and improvement of emergency call service are obvious said vaughan councillor joyce frustaglio committee members gave the green light for further research on the issue which will include ongoing consultation with local municipalities regional chairperson bill fisch called for an expe dited schedule as the politicians tackle an issue that has been examined and discarded in the past largely
