8 economist suntribune saturday oct 26 2002 ii flkl markham stduffville hospital ultadlt exercise code green mil on tuesday october 1 st the hospital con ducted exercise code green to test its evacuation plan all clinical areas of the hospital participated and evacuated volun teers pretending to be patients regular patient care was not impacted and additional staff were even brought in to minimize any disruption the scenario that led to the evacua tion was an explosion in the boiler room on the 3rd floor it was assumed that the simulated explosion caused enough damage to require a total hospital wide evacuation all of the emergency response agencies fire police ems were actively involved which gave the hospital an important opportunity to test communi cation and coordination between the agencies and the hospital overall the exercise was a great suc cess the patient care areas were well organized and coordinated a smooth evacuation of their mock patients feedback received from the emergency response agencies and other external evaluators involved spoke very highly of the hospital and of the staff and complimented all on a job well done the hospital will now review all of the feedback and recommendations received to help improve the plan in summary the plan worked well and the hospital is confident that a sound structure has been devel oped to help evacuate manage and care for patients once they are outside of the building tjpcomingsevents october 26 2002 1 a minute massage at markville mall sponsored by massage therapy association proceeds to msh foundation
