thursday how well they performed on last years provincial tests im sure there will be a lot of cel ebration said the enthusiastic st justin martyr catholic elementary school principal we have a better understanding of the curriculum theres been a shift in strategies and the inservice training- for teachers has been remarkable were reaping the benefits of those things according to provincewide read- ing writing and math test scores released for individual schools last week the unionville schools grade 3 students are number 1 in the board with a 93 average close to 100 per cent of the schools grade 3 students met or exceeded provincial standards in math and writing approximately 87 per cent met those levels in reading grade 6 stu- dents scored an average of 88 per cent in the three tested areas plac ing second in the board x we are building on our results from the past said ms bruneau whose school last year was among the top six we are maintaining our high standards and expectations and the results are a credit to the hard work of our teachers students and parents if you set up the foun dation that carries through close to 135 students wrote the test about two per cent of grade 3 students did not write the test the assessments help us to improve learning and teaching and show us which areas we need to work on said ms bruneau adding the school will continue to foster lit eracy and math skills tlirough such initiatives as the early literacy pro gram so many factors contribute the results to the success of a school and like the parents who have been extremely supportive we can be extremely happy with the results last year grade 6 students at unionvilles st monica catholic school were not among the boards top 10 schools but according to this years test scores they take top honour about 96 per cent of the schools grade 6 students achieved provin cial standards in reading with 94 per cent and 87 per cent achieving those levels in math and writing they are an exceptional group of kids said principal paul game see tests page 1 lolita bruneau principal of st justin martyr catholic elementary school praises curriculum these scores indicate how each york
