markham more than 25 years ago parsons started playing hockey with a group of friends on weekdays that group eventually formed whats now known as the markham mens recreational hockey league since joining the 50plus group parsons says the accidents are fewer since theres no physical contact or slapshots allowed while parsons enjoys playing what keeps him firmly attached to the league is the camaraderie you cant put a tag on it the camaraderie he says you may be on the same team next year or you may hot you keep changing teams and everybody gets to know every body else most of the guys in the league know me by my name but theres a bunch of guys who i dont know if i dont know them by name i just call them rookie i feel i can sp0rtsb0ard do that without being offensive to anyone parsons has heavy praise for league founder jimmy metzler for organizing the group without a league like this all of these guys would be out some where else and doing something else they wouldnt be out getting exercise they might be into some other mischief playing in the oldtimers divi sion has kept a lot of guys young its kept their cardiovascular going and kept them active parsons has worked with the markhamwaxers junior a club as an equipment manager for the last five years the markham team presented parsons with a waxers jersey with his name and the number 75 on the back at its game dec 21 against the stouffville spirit a team he was equipment manager of seven years ago its in my blood parsons says of his romance with hockey i love the game or i wouldnt be where i am today you dont do
