vaughan tavern long suspected of being a drug haven officers with project rock and roll arrested 22 people during the investiga tion and another five during fridays raid said det mike fleming five arrests in august 1999 led to an indepth probe that began in earnest last december he said officers witnessed several drug buys at the 400 restaurant andtavem while it was under surveillance it was quickly established this loca tion was very active with drug activity said const doug conley officers have received information this had been going on about eight years thirteen people inside the bar at the time were arrested but eight were later released he added a 40yearold woodbridge man a 48- yearold toronto man and a 38yearold man from brampton face drugrelated charges including possession of a con trolled substance for the purpose of traf ficking a small quantity of cocaine and mar ijuana was seized barroom brawl york regional police have arrested a 26yearold scarborough man in con nection with a barroom brawl at the other room in markham on march 12 it was one of several incidents that weekend including the stabbing death of a man at a richmond hill karaoke bar that has led to a police crackdown on afterhours clubs a group of 15 to 20 youths attacked another group with beer bottles at the woodbine avenue club about 245 am seven people were hurt two serious ly in the melee det frank taylor said a suspect turned himself at the markham station thursday hes charged with assault causing bodily harm and is scheduled to appear in court april 27 the investigation continues boy mugged two 17yearold males have been charged with the assault and robbery of a j4yearold boy in an aurora park last wednesday one suspect is still being sought by police in the attack near wellington and yonge streets police said the victim was riding his bike in the park adjacent to the york region district school board building as he rode one suspect pulled him off his bike throwing him to the ground the attackers removed 10 from his pockets and stole his watch before kick ing him twice in the ribs they fled on foot a third suspect believed to be the one who pulled the boy off the bike
