program will enable students to continuing working toward a high school diploma even when they are removed fronva regular school environment the estimated cost of the pro gram is 1 15000 plus two teachers the board has applied to human resources canada for a grant to cover the initial costs educators argue there are far- reaching consequences for a child who does not receive a full educa tion and say there are merits in providing an opportunity for expelled students to continue their education through academics life skills social and psychological counselling since 1993 61 students have been expelled- in the york region public school board all were high school students and most are male students the majority are at the grade 10 level it is expected the program could serve 60 students per year includ ing those who have dropped out notice of study commencement ninth line sanitary sewer extension municipal class environmental assessment schedule b cole sherman has been retained by the region of york to undertake the class environment assessment for the proposed ninth line sanitary sewer extension this project is classified as a schedule b undertaking under the class environmental assessment for municipal water and wastewater project the yorkdurham sewage system master plan june 1997 considered sanitary sewer options to provide adequate sanitary servicing for the projected growth of the community of stouffville examination of various alternatives identified a connection to the yorkdurham sewer system as the preferred alternative the need for servicing was further confirmed through the approval of the stouffville community plan as a result this study will examine alternative connections from the existing stouffville sewage system to the york- durham sewer system the extension of the york sanitarysewer once operational will eliminate the need of the stouffville sewage treatment plant and the west end pumping station the project will involve the following works the construction of a trunk sewer along ninth line from north of the little rouge river in markham to stouffville the construction of a branch line from north of nineteenth avenue west of ninth line to the west end pumping station the construction of a branch line from north of nineteenth avenue east of ninth line to the stouffville sewage treatment plant public input and comment are invited for incorporation into the planning and design of this project subject to comments received and the receipt of necessary approvals the region of york intends to proceed with the planning
