spirit of stouffville and their fans are finally get ting to experience what tier two junior a hockey is all about fn their combined five years with the spirit chapman marshall and king gave the team a muchneeded measure of respectability before being plucked up by the plymouth whalers of the ontario hockey league the ohio state university and university of massachusetts respec tively nowdeparted spirit head coach dan larmer no stranger to the us hockey scene himself bought into the idea of tier two junior a teams being developmental squads for aspiring ohl and us college players from day one for him the measure of a team like the spirit is taken as much by how many of its alumni goon to play at a higher level than by winning having a jeff marshall or darcy king for two years as they work their way to the us college scene or a kyle chapman for one brief season on his way to the ohl and hopefully a pro career is how you build a team that means you have to be constantly recruiting only to watch your hottest prospects move on a year or two later but dan said its a twoway street as teams like the spirit reap benefits of their own he has nothing but thanks for what marshall gave to the spirit as they struggled for respectability marshall a hard worker jeff has been working hard for two years helping build our organization he told me the other day its no secret how i feel about him i put the c for captain on his jersey dan says marshall will now have to adapt to his new situation but is confident he can make the jump the way he han dles the puck and skates hell do really well in us college hockey talking to kyle jeff and their moms ear lier this week it became clear they have had nothing but good things to say in return about the spirit owner ed hakonson and former coaches larmer john peron and trevor clark the pair will make good ambassadors for the spirit as they pursue their hockey careers marshall a 20yearold newmarket resi dent travels to columbus ohio for orienta
