recent missis- sauga tournament x the stars began the com petition with a 42 win over uktfpitv brampton as hartnoll jil- j 4 lian morrison melanie patersorr and jessica allen each scored for the win ners assists went to becky grieve hartnoll and paterson hartnoll had all three stars goals in a 63 loss to guelph in game two assists went to peterson 2 and dia george a 32 win over london earned the stars a spot in the championshipcontest hartnoll netted a pair with paterson adding the third stouffville score hartnoll pater son allen and lauren gainsbrook assisted hartnoll managed both stars the spirit of stouffville began the big push with a split decision and a morale boosting loss the spirit who must erase a sevenpoint spread between themselves and the fourth- place lindsay muskies if they are to grab their first ever provincial junior a hockey league playoff spot tied the couchiching terriers on the road 44 friday then fell 64 to the trenton sting at home on saturday and while one point in two games left the spirit spinning their wheels in last place the team showed signs of laying the ground work for a charge over the final six weeks of the regular season they held their own against the terriers while wiping out a 4- 2 trenton lead with a pair of third period goals saturday before the visiting sting netted the game winner on a power play well into the period trenton iced it with an empty netter in the dying seconds we were there at the end against trenton- and theyre in first place in the ruddock diyi- siori said spirit head coach dan larmer we started slowly but once we settled down we played decent hockey once again we proved we can keep up with any team in the league when we come to play larmer pointed to the rebirth of the spirit power play as a positive sign heading into the final 13 games of the schedule we were five for 1 2 on the weekend on the power play im extremely happy with that but while the power play is cooking once again the spirit are falling victim to opposi tion goals with the extra man as well noted larmer we killed eight of 12 opposition power plays on the weekend we should be doing a- little better the guys are staying on the ice too long and getting tired and its costing us the spirit took a 32 lead into the second period friday against the fifth place terriers the visitors led 43 after two periods with the home squad squaring things on a power play marker in the third a fiveminute overtime period failed to pro duce a goal team captain jeff marshall keyed the stouffville offence with a goal and an assist dave zelasko netted his 14th joe byles his third and kyle chapman his third for the spirit darcy kinghad two assists king added to his team goal scoring lead by bagging his 29th and 30th saturday geoff keillor collected his 12th with marshall hit ting for another goal and assist giving the defenceman eight markers on the season the sting led 10 after the first 20 minutes and carried a 42 edge into the third the
