union president i hor baczynsky says members of the york catholic teachers will also be urged to reject a final offer from the local separate board which baczynsky called disappointing and fright ening yesterday because it does not offer to restore lost salary increments to teachers the board says the twoyear deal retroactive to last septem ber which it gave the union fri day contains no salary or benefit cuts and no staffing cuts this offer recognizes the cur rent competitiveness of our teach ers salaries as well as the reality of the boards outstanding deficit chair tina molinari said in the statement but a way to resolve the issue of three increments frozen during the social contract years is not included meanwhile all other school boards in the greater toronto area have started restor ing them to their teachers baczynsky saidl i think thats just going to drive teachers to the brink of the precipice he warned in a report released last week provincial factfinder eugene swimmer suggested the board cant afford the restoration saying teachers must accept it can only be done through other conces sions like an increased workload he did suggest however that teachers drop their grievance over a staff cut of 120 in return for one increment baczynsky who maintains the board can afford all three levels noted the board didnt use this recommendation in its offer were prepared to negotiate for the other two salary levels but the board isnt even at the one he said although swimmer argued the teachers know their current salary grid is among the best in the province baczynsky said 60 per cent earn less than their maxi mum salary of 66673 failing to restore the lost levels means many catholic teachers are getting 3000 less than the salary they deserve every year he said our membership will not agree to come back for less than what the surrounding boards have said baczynsky morale is terrible now morale will be unbearable by next year no further negotiating sessions with the board are planned before teachers vote in schools next fri day gst auction tomorrow night stouffville unites church is holding a goods services and talents auction tomorrow evening
