we reported recently on this page about how ballantrae sisters cindy and donna oneill had put together a world class half pipe for donnas son shawn and all the other kids in the hood stouffvilles sue joyce read the story then called to say her 17yearold son ryan had built a pretty fair facility himself and that it too was attracting hordes of local kids in fact sue was happy to announce that one of the regulars 16yearold johnny mcguire had achieved top results at a competition held at har- bourfront in toronto the weekend of july 2627 johnny placed fourth overall and was second in his age group in the free style cycling event on the ramp johnny ended up with his own legal version sports notes of the infamous rosie ruiz new york marathon subway caper when he and his stouffville friends transport- ed their bikes and boards to the competition venue via bruce b tap ley the ttc after being dropped off at finch station however the downside reports sue is that back on the home front she hasnt been quite as suc cessful as donna and cathy oneill in behavior control it seems some of the youngsters cant keep their tongues in check when theyre engag ing in their favorite outdoor activity and conse quently sue had to play the heavy and shut the facility down for a few weeks to let the kids know she meant business based on my experiences walking in and out of the high school and in my own neighborhood as well as in conversations with others i know around town this problem would appear to be rather widely spread while most people would agree that stouffville kids are more than all right in general there defi nitely needs to be a little refining with some of them hey guys at least cool it when youre in the presence of others who might be offended espe cially when theres people like sue joyce out there who are prepared to pen up her back yard so you can enjoy your favorite sport for ontario youths theresa ebden correspondent at dusk tonight the final fastball showdown
