arena she filed for a spot on council last monday sherban will be running in the nov 10 municipal elec tions in the ward she has called home for the last 23 years ward 6 ward 6 councillor mark kostandoff hasnt announced yet whether hell be running again for council although shes never held a council position sherban claims to have attended over 80 per cent of the council meetings held over the past three years one of the reasons i decid ed to run is because there have been a lot of things council has left out said sherban one of those things sherban feels the current council has ignored is the public i think thats where theyve fallen short comments sherban they havent lis tened to the public sherban is no stranger to the community shes been an executive member of the sum- mitview ss 1 sue sherban board from 1995 to 1997 and coordinated the teen dances for the straw berry festi val in 199596 in 1994 she founded the stouf- fville parents of teens spot club and may be remembered for her efforts to bring a swim ming pool to stouffville sherban is an active member of the stouffville residents association which was formed to give residents a say about the secondary plan the voices of the stouf fville residents association are all the same said sherban the residents association has been fighting for more time so that residents have more time to think about and com ment on the secondary plan a document which will dic tate the social and economic development of stouffville until the year 2021 i think we should slow down the process give the people a sixmonth period so the public can review it said sherban about the planning process other issues to watch for in this election include user fees for recreational services and whether or not the town should build a new town hall at an estimated cost of 34 million or repair the current hall at a cost of 700000 sherban believes user fees are alright so long as the less fortunate arent left high and dry unable to afford recre ational services although shes personally against building a new town hall she said she wants public hearings on the issue before taking any action although the deadline for candidates to file for the municipal elections isnt until midoctober several candi dates have already announced their intentions to run vandorf resident christopher dymond is running for coun cillor ivanka bradleys seat in ward 1 bradley has announced she will not be a candidate in ward 1 also seeking office is pre ston lake resident peter dobrich for ward 3 which is now held by councillor mar- got marshall ward 4 councillor cliff dunkeld ward 5 councillor judy scala and mayor wayne emmerson are all seeking re election for their current posi tions lots to see and do at art in the park stouffvillearea artists are getting very excited theres a buzz around town because the second art in the park is a little more than a week away on saturday july 19 the festi val will begin at 10 am at elgin park in uxbridge and more than 120 of ontarios finest painters sculptors multimedia artists and other creative people including many from stouffville will be on hand to greet those first through the gate art in the park of course benefits the cottage hospital foundation and proceeds go toward completing the uxbridge tribunes pledge of 50000 to the real people real care campaign and there is more than art at this years festival the lions club will host a wine and beer tent to provide refreshments during the after noon and a host of communi ty groups and businesses will be providing food and drinks once you have made the cir cuit through the thousands of original works of art you can rest and have tea compliments of the pinewood chorus then come to the perfor mance area saturday at 2 pm and catch the driftwood the atre companys presen tation of much ado about nothing if you are of a musical mind there will be jazz combos perform ing throughout the park along with classical minstrels and folk duos also there will be entertainment for the kids and some special surprises the kreative kids area will once again be a wonderful place to bring your young ones this year organizer and lat cham gallery art instructor judy bear campbell has a host of free creative projects for children they will be able to create their own master pieces to bring home art in the park 97 will run from 10 am to 6 pm on both saturday july 19 and sunday july 20 admission to the park will be just 5 for adults 10 for family 3 for students and seniors and children under 5 will be admitted free with an adult for
