stouffvillemarkham based flyball organization final ly reached the top last month when it eclipsed the world record time in a headtohead showdown with the previous record holder the victory was made even sweeter in that it came right in the incumbents own backyard at the instant replay flyball extravaganza in caledonia the total recall fourdog unit completed the course in a time of 1670 sec onds narrowly bettering the existing mark of 1671 seconds that had been set earlier the same day by caledonias instant replay squad for the uninitiated flyball involves teams of four dogs who must take turns negotiating a course that includes four hur dles after which a ball released from a flyball box must be caught and returned to the start ing point the time elapsed as the quartet of dogs complete the routine is electronically record ed the record breaking run was nt without its drama paula perini a total recall trainer who helps prepare the teams stall of 1 1 dogs for com petition said the team had to break the world mark four times before walking away with the tournament championship we made it in 1673 seconds on the saturday to break the british teams record of 1675 seconds said perini who lives in stouffville and works as a dog groomer in markham then caledonia beat that with a time of 1671 seconds on sat urday morning we raced them an hour and a half later and beat them with a time of 1670 sec- tn world record time the total recall flyball team recent ly made its presence felt at the instant replay flyball extravaganza in caledonia by completing the course in a record time of 1670 sec onds this eclipsed the mark set earlier that same day by the host caledonia team onds the record romp made total recall the fastest flyball team in the world the team had been stalled at third globally and sec ond in north america for the past season but at a tournament held the week before the cale donia event total recall had moved into first place in north america but theres still one more hur dle to be jumped if total recall is to lay official claim to the north american title the team must win a regional tournament in cambridge this month we must win our region to win the north american champi onships said perini perini said the excitement generated at tournaments like the one in caledonia is almost electric its quite the struggle you think hockey parents are bad total recalls success is due in part to its depth as well as a commitment to excellence most of the dogs making up its three teams have been with them three or four years week ly practices are held thursday nights in richmond hill to keep the dogs in top form along with perini fellow trainers mike chase and trish beatty also live in stouffville louise tackaberry and lisa hamilton reside in markham the roster of dogs includes bor der collies and a mix of border collieterriers now that theyve reached the top the total recall troupe is determined to stay there weve been shooting for that joins former uxbridge bruins head coach trevor clark who was named assistant coach to dan larmer earlier this spring and clive moody a former bruins general manager who was recently appointed spirit general manag er peron was head coach of the 199596 york simcoe express aaa midgets which won 52 lost 13 and tied seven while winning its league title as well as six tournaments he was cocoach of the bradford bulls junior c team from 1993- 95 peron was most valuable player of the newmarket 87 s during their first two seasons in 198788 drafted by the north bay centennials of the ontario hockey
