the province of ontario in 1994 this document provides a policy framework to guide growth in the region through 2021 the rop and the associated population forecasts will require expansion of major regional services including sanitary sewage collection and disposal currently 94 of the existing population relies on sanitary services provided through the yorkdurham sewage system ydss the ydss is expected to continue to provide the bulk of the regional servicing needs through 2021 and beyond the regional municipality of york is now preparing a master plan for the yorkdurham trunk sewer system the master plan identifies and reviews sewage servicing alternatives necessary to meet current and future growth and will identify an environmentally responsible costeffective approach to servicing future growth in york region in addition the impacts of connecting the communities of king city nobleton queensville holland landing and stouffville to the yorkdurham trunk sewer are being considered the project is being undertaken in accordance with master plan provisions of the class environmental assessment for municipal water and wastewater projects the short list of alternative solutions that are being considered and associated proposed works including costs will be presented at the following public information centre to be held when april 24 1997 time 200 pm to 900 pm where regional municipality ofyork great hall main floor 17250 yonge street newmarket ontario following the public information centre the alternatives will be evaluated preferred solutions identified and a master plan report prepared to document the planning process including how public input was received and considered at that time another information centre will be hosted all reasonable efforts will be made society fundraising campaign by kate gilderdale correspondent when mac ofarrell was five years old his world was turned upside down he was a very active kid always running and jumping said his mother cathy sudden ly he seemed tired he wanted me to drive him to the park rather than walk and when we got there he would just sit and play in the sand then he got a cold sore which didnt heal so she took him to the doctor and was referred to a dermatologist who diagnosed impetigo when medication failed to work she made an appointment with her family physician who had been away on her previous visit he found that his glands were swollen so he sent him for blood work the tests confirmed that mac had leukemia and he was admitted to torontos hospital for sick children less than a week after his fifth birthday it was the beginning of a frightening rollercoaster ride in which the everyday ups and downs of life no longer applied he went on three years of chemotherapy and he did very well for the first two years at the end of the treatment his family was told that mac would not need to come back until his checkup in six months my sister and i were walking out of the hospital with tears pouring down our faces mac said why are you crying it was just cancer cathy said their relief at his apparent recovery was shortlived howev er that was in august and in september he said i think i need glasses because i have trouble seeing the board at school she said mac developed migraines but the doctors couldnt pinpoint the cause when he contracted a high fever they took him to emergency at markham stouf fville hospital the fever persisted and one of his eyes began to turn inward so doctors transferred him to the oly trinity school when it comes to your childs education get the facts children on a sunday night the oncol ogist said that hed had a relapse that it had gone to his brain and if we didnt start radi ation that night he would be blind by morning they opened up the clinic at the bayview cancer centre so he could begin treatment imme diately it was worse than the first time and much worse for him said cathy he had a cloth on his face and he wouldnt take it off he didnt want to eat or talk to anybody crisis followed crisis but macs courage and stoicism throughout his sevenyear ordeal has contin ually amazed family friends and doctors he has come close to losing his battle several times and on one occasion cathy woke his sib lings and drove them to the hos pital to say goodbye when he came home from hos pital two years ago he was hav ing trouble walking and his speech began to be affected doctors tried switching med ications and he seemed to be holding his own until last christmas said his moth er then he started falling and having blackouts and seizures his speech wors ened and he has difficulty writing but through it all this amazing young man has continued to inspire everyone around him i would not have traded being his mother for anything and as hard as everything is to go through and to watch him go through he has handled it with such courage said cathy he makes me so proud when you give to the canadian cancer soci ety this month your donation
