year the wife of the late stan stiver mrs stiver was born in 1895 in whitchurch where she grew up she lived briefly in ring- wood before marrying her carpenter husband and moving to unionville where she lived for over 60 years she took up residence in parkview five years ago mrs stiver was the sister of wes and harvey schell both deceased wes schell founded the stouffville planing mill in 1922 the business became schell lumber in the mid- 1950s harvey schell once operated a butcher store in the main st stouffville building now occupied by ethel stiver birkett and hassard insur ance mrs stiver who would have been 100 this july attended the missionary alliance church in unionville she lived a plain earnest life but witnessed much change according to her son carman stiver of sut ton west she lived from the horse and buggy era right through the present she loved to knit and make quilts and crochet and she loved to cook he said along with her two broth ers mrs stiver was prede ceased by sisters eva and ida of toronto she leaves behind car man and daughters marie kennedy of bobcaygeon and evelyn lunau of keswick she also leaves four grand children and four great grandchildren service and committal are to be held at the oneill funeral home stouffville at 1 pm today there will be a spring interment at the bethesda lutheran cemetery unionville bruce stapley plans begin to gel for local ve day celebrations by bruce stapley correspondent the stouflville legion is getting pledges of support from various local organiza tions in its plans to celebrate the 50th anniversary of ve day representatives of the whitchurch- stouffville chamber of commerce the stouffville kinsmen and the boy scouts were on hand at a meeting held by the legions ve day committee feb 27 it was confirmed at the meeting that the parade commemorating the historic armistice will take place saturday may 6 it will form up in memorial park and pro ceed up park dr then along main st to the clock tower it is hoped ontario lieu tenant governor hal jackman will revue and receive and salute at that site the parade will then return to the legion hall on ninth line where refresh ments will be served if all goes according to plan there could be a celebration in song following the parade said committee member george lovett weve spoken to a representative of music mania about having the music mania chorus there to sing songs from the 1940s said lovett they were all for it and theyre going to try to get the sheet music the committee has lined up the shelly miller orchestra a swing band to per form at the dance planned for the legion the evening of the parade the band is to play music from the 1940s 50s and 60s the committee is also looking to hold a youth dance the same night on sunday may 7 a ceremony at the cenotaph is to precede a parade at the stouffville united church lovett said hes delighted with the sup port his committee has received so far everythings really rolling like we never thought it would lovett and his group are urging all ser vice clubs and local organizations as well as members of the public to get involved all ideas will be welcomed he said lovett is planning to present the com mittees plans to council march 14 where approval will be sought to close main st for the parade the committee meets again on the evening of march 27 at the legion
