and good service for their tax dollars we all have to live within our means as a community he said and that means ask ing some tough questions on the services provided preston said he has the nec essary qualities to provide the leadership needed in ward one i can work with people to see what theyre looking for he said but ill fight for my point of view ward 2 lyons well prepared for run at council retired school teacher ed lyons went back to school to help prepare for his second attempt at winning the ward 2 council seat lyons spent part of the past three years at seneca college taking courses on municipal administrative structure and management and financial administration he also attend ed most meetings of council to keep abreast of the issues and sat on the towns fence viewing committee lyons said he understands the importance of the communal water issue in his ward and is prepared to ensure the people are kept informed in this ward thats an issue youve got to have both hands on he said he said he would push for more dis cussion while making avail able more information research and analysis for local residents lyons thinks the bal- lantrae community centre is being location on the oak ridges moraine lyons said he is prepared to spend the time necessary to deal with the complex and sometimes controversial issues particular to his ward i have the time to address the issues to focus in on the issues here in ward 2 ive lived in the area for over 38 years and im familiar with the issues and the people farmer promises community involvement richard farmer is looking to parlay a strong record of civic involvement into a ward 2 council seat farmer who moved into the area from the barrie area over a year ago is past chairman of both the stephen leacock cor porate olympics and the gar diner awards organizing com mittee he has also been a vice president with the toronto junior board of trade and toronto jaycees farmer a partner with a markhambased insurance bro ker business cites councils decision not to put the current garbage contract up to tender as evidence that the current council is not acting in the best interests of the town residents he sees the communal water issue in his ward as another area where council is not deal- richard farmer ing squarely with resi dents this is supposed to be an issue where the politicians are working with the peo ple it could have been handled in a better way he also questioned why the town chose not to include a com munal sewage system in the proposal suggesting the deci sion was shortsighted tve never heard of that being done before they could have at least laid the pipe for when they do eventually go with a sewage system will they have to rip up the streets again in the year 2000 farmer said residents in his ward are also upset that the ballantrae community centre is being run by the town instead of by members of the local com munity he feels the current council is guilty of not involving residents in the decision mak ing process i think whats hap pened the past few years is that the people havent been heard fm tired of that type of politics i represent the common man the citizen with a mortgage fanner said his civic back ground and ability to organize has prepared him for a seat on council tve been involved with the community and fve got the organizational skills that have catapulted me into the position to straighten things out and get the job done t
