is a waste of taxpayers money and a ridiculous way to repair one of the worst roads in whitchurch- stouffville local politicians heard this week two residents and workers of king cole duck say they have hundreds of signatures from peo ple who use the road every day and who want it fixed properly the residents are reacting to councils decision last week to chop 30000 from the 67000 war den avenue road repair budget council instead allocated the monies to fix several other broken rural roads this year after viewing a road priority hit list prepared by public works department outlining which roads require immediate attention officials decided the 30000 should be used to temporari ly repair several roads suffering frost breakup this year one of the worst in 10 years bev murby a warden avenue resident speak ing on behalf of king cole duck employees said people are furious the town has cut its warden avenue repair funding in half this year when the road is barely passable this road is in a very bad state it is wrecking all our vehicles and nothing has been done in 25 years every year we watch and wait watch and wait murby said murby told politicians she wants a traffic count to prove the road is used not only by local resi dents but by motorists who travel the rural road as a bypass to busy hwy 404 pat thompson said residents watch local road crews each year apply patch jobs to the roads many potholes but calls it a waste of time we feel bad for these roads people its such a mess and its a nonstop process theyre fighting a losing battle thompson said she urged officials not to ignore the warden avenue problem just because its out of the way because its tucked up in the corner you dont realize how heavy a traffic area it is you should at least look at how much traffic uses this road thompson urged officials had decided to hold off one more year on warden ave and make it top priority in 1994 town roads expert paul whitehouse said a prop er and complete reconstruction project could cost about 300000 whitehouse said he realizes the poor state of the road but based on his criteria repairs to warden came second in lino to mccowan and vandorf where the town will spend a combined 200000 this year in spot repairs whitehouse said he will recommend warden as top priority next year including rail way crossing improvement gravel ditching culvert placements and surface treatment officials voted to perform current traffic studies and promised to make the work top priority in 1994 strawberries ready this weekend from page 1 and features a appointment to the fivemem ber board became official june 10 when she took an oath of secrecy marshall will join the honor able donald ross shearer newmarket mayor ray tvvin- ney york region chairman eldred king and aurora resi dent evelyn buck for her first meeting this week marshall who says she is extremely pleased and honored to have been chosen to sit on such a highprofile committee says the boards duties are a lot like municipal government but on a bigger scale the board acts as a go- between with the public and the police under established provincial guidelines marshall said parkview board has no comment on use of 29000 for sidewalk from page 1 these services through taxation then what are we doing there prentice said he accused the mayor of trickery when she called for a record ed vote after prentice voted down the motion to go ahead with the sidewalk using funds contributed by parkview this whole process is just an active slight of hand prentice added he said the town is making it look as though they are providing the sidewalk when really parkview is paying for the work them selves we didnt do a thing for parkview using parkview village money isnt taxation money its no different than having money raised through a bake sale pren tice fumed after the meeting prentice said he is concerned because york region might take over responsibility of the ninth line and will want the 29000 to improve the ninth line at that time but sainsbury said york has made no commit ment to take over the road and has no money in its budget this year to take such an expensive road swap parkview village administrator lloyd hogg meanwhile said parkviews board of directors decided at a special meeting this week to make no comment regarding the source of funds to build the sidewalk but agrees with the concept of installing it its not our money anymore its up to the town to decide how to finance the sidewalk hogg said but hogg added the board worded its letter to the town very deliberately as to not legally imply either way how the board wanted the sidewalk to be funded there is legal implication either way and we have concerns of casting a view one way or the other the board is not prepared to make a further statement other than we support the concept hogg said he said some board members are questioning however why the move to use the funds came up so quickly why all the rush weve been talking about it for some time hogg said ward 1 councillor stephen beilerby ward 3 councillor nick tatone sainsbury ward 5 councillor bob ancheril and ward 4 councillor cliff dunkeld voted to build the sidewalk with funds from parkviews road improvement contribution while prentice hogg and ward 1 councillor ivahka bradley voted it down tracy kibble whwhihwhiw i kids earn
