restore the dignity to a once great stouffviile institution hakonson has bought the fire- gutted deer park inn and is looking to open up a restaurant with a motor sport racing theme come summer he wilj move his mammoth sports clothing business into the building in march not a man to let moss grow underfoot hes already begun restoring the once proud restaurant and entertainment centre fellow partner george bruce is doing the contracting work while george wilson another local partner will look after the administrative side of the operation hakonson is no stranger to the world of car racing he is president of race car holdings inc which has concession rights to seven speedways across canada his clothing company makes chevrolet racing clothing along with the race clothes worn by noted canadian racer scott goodyear goodyear reports hakonson will probably be on hand to help open the restaurant hes also trying to line up richard petty and roger penske as well as some other local racers as for the facility itself the building will sport a new white paint job with a red roof the racing motif will be everywhere with racing films being shown on tv sets in selected booths posters referring to the glut of hockey- baseball theme restaurants and sports bars hakonson hopes to attract general motors and ford people to the facility and to draw from the racing industry he has become so familiar with through the years its going to be a really busy spot he insists referring to his own provocative nature hakonson assured me he wouldnt be serving meals or dealing one on one with the patrons who come to the restaurant hell be far too busy filling his sports clothing orders but hes going out on a limb to suggest the operation is just different enough to succeed im cocky enough that i just might make it work he laughed pony club remains intact despite the recent closing of the eglinton equestrian club the 58- year- old eglinton pony club will continue to operate the pony club was housed at the davis dr cedar valley location until financial problems forced the board of the equestrian club to close the doors of the prestigious operation in early december diana langmuir formerly an instructor with the equestrian club has leased an 8 1 acre 38stall facility to house the pony club to be known as ralston hill the farm is located on the 7th concession of east gwillimbury south of the mt albert sideroad liz and bob inglis central ontario region pony club communications cochairs said the pony club will continue to offer its usual slate of activities in 1993 the pony club is a separate organization and was not involved in the financial difficulties of the equestrian club said the inglis in a recent press release pony club is an international organization to promote riding and horsemanship skills among people up to the age of 21 years of age eglinton is one of 32 branches comprising the central ontario region of the canadian pony club there are 12 other regions across canada
