begin the whitchurchstouffville baseball association wsba which is gearing up for its fourth season is moving ahead despite weekend diamond slots which are proving to be an impediment to growth unlike our neighbors in uxbridge where hardball pushed softball right out of the picture at the minor levels the hardball folks here are finding the combination of limited diamond space and an entrenched softball program to be a challenge but new wsba president brent gibson says the organization is rising to the occasion interest is strong with what began as a one team rep program having expanded to four rep squads and six house league outfits for the coming season at the rep level there will be mosquito peewee bantam and midget squads mike burns is head coach of the mosquitoes while roy kerswill jim johnston and bill hickman will look after the peewees bantams and midgets respectively the rep crews which will once again be known as the indians play their home games sundays at 6 pm using all four memorial park sport notes b r u c c diamonds the houseleague which is now into its second year is to consist of two each of peewee mosquito and tball teams it will be the first season for the tball program houseleague action will take place friday evenings at the main diamond while gibson said he is pleased with the overall i progress of the organization he said its been tough because of the weekend scheduling everybody goes away on weekends he said otherwise i think we would be expanding a lot more gibson said the situation could improve if a proposed subdivision in the area of st marks catholic church comes on line we need a new hardball diamond the developer of the proposed subdivision has committed to building two diamonds and supposedly one is for hardball if we ever got something like that wed be in great shape the wsba which will begin its season may 20 is planning a pee wee tournament for the weekend of june 1012 teams will practice in school gyms and on school fields until then said gibson the 1994 wsba executive is rounded out by mike burns vicepresident debbie martin treasurer ian boyd oba rep joanne straughan registrar art van esterik umpire in chief qco
