runs also met regularly with several teens at the stouffville track facility last summer helping put the kids through their paces fred has already made a sig nificant contribution to the facility which will house the club he plans to register with the ontario trackand field association next month he has applied his carpenters skills to the building of five steeple chase barriers along with a steeple chase pit he also made official line stands with a starters box fred envisions a diversified club with members ranging from 11 years of age through adult while his personal expertise as a coach and an athlete is restricted to running he is hoping to entice adults with some knowledge of throw ing sports to get involved as well he is currently working on a logo for the club and is looking at using purple white and lime green as club colors fred says his goal is twofold firstly he wants to encourage good athletes to become better athletes the difference between finishing 10th and fin ishing third is usually a matter of employing a more disciplined training program he insists his second aim is to encour age a positive lifestyle through fitness track and field pro motes self esteem and self disci pline and it helps build charac ter fred told me recently ing out for something to do well heres something they can get involved in freds role as he sees it will be to serve as a coordinator to help members register for the various track and field events which take place each season in the greater toronto area ideally he would like to see the club hold a meet of its own an all both the town and the local high school on whos property the track facility sits with the outdoor recreation complex having been built as a joint venture of the town and the school board freds club bowlers compete for turkeys toddy jamie amundson and mike davies emerged as the winning senior team after five weeks of competition in the uxbridge youth bowling hilow doubles tournament the tandem
