presented with his certificate of apprenticeship by charles close of the appren ticeship branch of the ministry of skills development the presentation was made during a special wine and cheese reception held in honor of banbury at the schleese shop on kennedy rd south of bloomington rd oct 14 threeyear course the ceremony represented a much soughtafter goal for jochen schleese a european- trained saddler who set up a threeyear program in conjunc tion with the ministry saddlery has been recog nized as a skilled trade in europe for many years said schleese with the introduc tion of this jochens recalled banbury i had been interested in stitching leather and i always enjoyed working with my hands i had considered univer sity but i decided to get into a trade while schleese had been offering the apprenticeship pro gram for several years it wasnt recognized by the gov ernment until may of 1990 accomplished rider as well as being a certified saddler banbury is also an accomplished rider ive been involved with riding horses since i was 10 and i was an apprentice dressage rider at one point banbury who lives in orangeville was a pony club b certificate holder who competed successfully nationally and internationally in the tetrathlon in 1989 he repre sented canada at the inter- pacific pony club rally in new zealand where he placed first in dressage and won a silver team nations cup medal he was also first in the young riders dressage team trial in 1989 and competed in the north american dressage championships that year he said business is brisk at saddlery with customers com ing from across the country to have saddles made canadian olympic dressage rider christilot honson boylen along with renowned german dressage champion and trainer udo lange have recently
