purchase 75000 worth of new computers the tribune was told yesterday grade 8 teacher and fundrais- ing coordinator john sandham said the school hopes to update its aging icon unisys equip ment by october with a more hightech system the fundrais- ing event will kickoff the first week of may during education week technology is the wave of the future and we need really good computers sandham said orchard park with a student population of 550 will name the new system after an impres sive wellrespected teacher the late barbara wideman wideman an uxbridge resi dent worked on the york region board of education for 25 years and taught at orchard park for 10 years she always went out of her way to help students and deserves this recognition sand ham said barbara took a big interest in the kids she was very supportive of staff and had a knack for listening sandham said he told the tribune stu dents are unable bring their computer work home because the older machines dont have floppy disks that hold informa tion with the new system students can complete assignments or do work in their homes the school currently has 15000 saved and sandham hopes the board will volunteers honored on april 7 the ministry of culture and recreation honored six volunteers from the whitchurchstouffville museum for their ongoing support an award ceremony was held at roy thomson hall to recog nize the air in the township of uxbridge 1 no person shall set maintain or allow to burn a fire in the open air for any purpose in the township of uxbridge except during the time commencing onehalf hour before sunrise and terminating onehalf hour after sunset in any day except as otherwise hereinafter permitted 2 no person shall set a fire in the open air in the township of uxbridge unless he or she has obtained a permit from the municipal office for the township of uxbridge has provided all information as is required thereby and has obtained telephone approval on the date of setting the fire which approval must be obtained from the fire chief or deputy fire chief of the township of uxbridge or an authorized designee 3 all persons setting a fire in the open air in the township of uxbridge a shall be responsible for any damage to property occasioned by said fire and b shall be liable for the cost of any fire fighting equipment and personnel necessary to extinguish said fire which cost will be calculated in accordance with a costs schedule to be calculated and extablished annually by council of the township of uxbridge in addition to any other remedy available to the township of uxbridge the said costs may be recovered in like manner as municipal taxes and also c shall adhere to the guidelines for open burning set out in schedule a attached hereto 4 a fire set in the open air must be attended at all times by the person to whom the permit was issued or another responsible adult until the fire is extinguished 5 the provisions of this bylaw shall not prevent the setting of a fire in a safely constructed enclosed incinerator or barbecue unit or in a safe cleared area when the fire is of a reasonable size for cooking purposes only and complies with the provisions of schedule a to this bylaw 6 any person who contravenes any of the provisions of this bylaw is guilty of an offence and shall upon conviction thereof be liable to a penalty of not more than 500000 pursuant to and recoverable under the provincial offences act schedule a guidelines for open burning fires set in the open air must comply with the following guidelines and a b c d e f g must not cause smoke or fire damage to property must not decrease visibility or create a hazard on any public or private roadway must not spread rapidly through any grass or brush area must not be greater than 15 metres in diameter must not be set under weather conditions that limit the rapid dispersion of smoke must not burn petroleum products plastics rubber or other materials that create excessive or toxic smoke or excessive odour must not be located within fifteen 15 metres of any building or structure or overhead wires and must have the surrounding area within a 75 metre radius cleared of all
