the last stretch toward completion of track facilities according to dave captain connell the stouffville district secondary school phys ed head who pushed so hard to see the com- munity track project come on stream there are but three remain ing chores to be done before we can consider the outdoor athletic facili ty completed the first job involves the selling of enough personalized bricks to complete the special wall of fame begun on the north east corner of the project as it is now the wall which is a tribute to all who gave financial support to the facility is a little sparse connell is hopeful that one last push by himself and the stu dents can double the present 170 bricks already in place each individual family or com pany which donated a minimum of sport notes 150 gets to have a brick put up with their name on it so far the top brick donation has been 1000 with sdss teacher john roberts way up there with his 500 contri bution connell says he may even turn the brick blitz into a business proposition for the students offers ing them a 10 per cent commission for each brick they sell the second task involves the obtaining of a permit from the schbatd storage building between the tennis courts and the track connell has the plans for the 32 by 24foot structure and is hopeful that many of the materials needed to build the thing can be donated job three requires the amassing of the necessary track and field equip ment to fill the above mentioned storage building connell and fel low phys ed teacher scott croucher have compiled a shopping list of all the goods needed and connell fig ures it will amount to some 15000 the equipment would be there for the use of all schools or organiza tions wanting to use the track and field facility for meets the sdss gym has been given a much needed touch of tradition for the 199192 athletic year it has been turned into a veritable hall of fame as it were x as part of the schools grand reunion held this past july first weekend 25 banners were unfurled and left hanging on thegym walls the banners commemorate each team victory the school has ever won dating back to the late 1950s former sdss athletic stars brenda hachey and michelle leblond spearheaded the drive to compile the collection according to cor nell he said the flags elicited an emo tional reaction from the crowd of sdss alumni gathered in the gym to see them pulled down during the reunion v the boys volleyball banners were last to be revealed with former yv j- ball stars jim hill and don smith combining with super coaches jim rehill and jini fletcher to do the i honors v in all there are 39 championships listed on the two boys volleyball banners in second place in terms of over- all titles won is coed cross country running with 30 which also required the use of a second banner to accommodate the long list of tri- umphs it is definitely worth a trip to the gym to see this classy shrine to the great teams which have come out of sdss through the years congratulations to all those responsible for completing this worthy undertaking it has forever removed that institutional feeling people usually get when they walk mtoa high school i- mz ka
