stouffvillite she first got bit by the history bug when she gained possession of a book com piled by her great uncle david stouffer the collection contained details of the stouffville of confederation days when the railway first came to town after marrying her husband howard jean came across another historical log that had been main tained by christian stouffer the grandson of abraham she combined these two resources with tales she hadlieard her parents tell and started her own reconstruction of the history of stouffville and its surrounding area jean was instrumental in produc ing the 200 page book called stouf- ffyille a wonderfully- presented wrhy ten and pictorial account of the towrir the book which was published in time for stouffville s centennial in 1977 has found its way into roughly 5000 homes jean said the undertaking was the work of numerous enthusiastic workers local photographers ted cadieux and george ross carefully repro- duced the hundreds of photographs brought forward by the oldtimers of the town stouffville council came up with the 50000 required to send the book to print jean said she receives calls every day from people researching their own stouffville properties or want ing to know who lived where at- a certain time she is now working on- a second book which will document the hamlets of old whitchurch town ship hamlets which thrived in days gone by but which have now disap peared jean was hoping to see the work hit the press along with another ambitious historical undertaking a book about the vanishing farm in whitchurch was sadly abandoned with the recent death of fellow his tory buff marjprie richardson of vandorf jean is hopeful the book might still be finished by family mem bers another project jean has been involved with will come to official unveiling of a piece of local history which dates back some 130 years in 1984 the board arranged for the relocation to the museum prop erty of the james brown house which had stood in the area of the stouffville sales barn oh hwy 47 since the 1850s or 60s the brick structure had been van dalized by a motor cycle gang who had rented it before it was moved mammoth renovations were under
