scheduled for a long awaited meeting with environment minister ruth grier and local mpp larry oconnor members of the sierra club will meet with gov ernment officials july 23 at ministry offices president of the york and durham regions chap ter of the worlds largest environmental group ken jobe is hesitant to divulge the groups lengthy agen da heading into the meeting im reluctantto comment the ministry of nat ural resources indicated some areas along the moraine will indeed be designated as significant natural areas under new provincial guidelines no development will be permitted in those areas the announcement seems like the light at the end of a tunnel suggested jobe but the club is still preparing a detailed reaction to each point in the announcement it is likely however discussion at the meeting will also concern the high pollution levels in the areas kettle lakes according to jobe cries for help have been ignored by stouffviue council because of their inaction we redevelopment proposal a model of the renewed attitude in north america towards community development the redevelopment plan which is based on a tradi tional compact town design is meant to allow easy access to services and amenities by keeping them within walking distance the plan includes a town centre a range of housing- types a radial street network to coincide with the shape of surrounding valleys bicycle pathways and neighborhood parks t human scale buildings a public square the preser vation of historical landmarks are also called for in the plan the proposal which includes separate plans for a private university is estimated to attract 30000 peo ple to east gwillimbury many possibly from this area regional councillor ron moran of markham how ever said the proposal didnt fit into
