mission activities in the third world part of our program was putting on international buffets and they were always very popular said rev amy thats where we got the idea from i left the mission a few years back and started pastoral work here but ive always wanted to put on an international buffet for our church meriam amy is from the philip pines and worked with the mission there until 1985 when she came to canada a nurse by profession she also did relief work in ethiopia dur ing the famine of 1985 she is a talented cook and learned many of the recipes she will be presenting on the 22nd from people of various nationalities whom she met during her cross- canada tours during the evening the amys will report on the urgent need for assistance in the philippines last nov 13th there was a really big typhoon that hit my village community said meriam a lot of homes were destroyed the government is helping people as far as food is concerned but according to my sister things like s building materials are badly need ed following the buffet in which dishes from a number of countries will be served there will be an information program onthe devas tation in the philippines and on the plans for rebuilding we will show slides of the vil lage and explain what we want to do with the money we raise said rev amy therell be a little offering after the program added his wife but there will be no charge for the buf fet the idea is not simply to hand out money stressed rev amy well be working with the church there we want it to be an opportunity for our church to do something for them and to allow us to truly reach out to people in need the amys will be visiting the philippines themselves early in march meriam amy has not seen her family for almost six years and her husband has never met them although their trip is primarily a family reunion the couple will also visit the village to learn about their needs first hand we can take pictures of people and the pastor of the church there and bring back reports for our church notes rev amy i think it will be really exciting an opportunity for people here to become really aware of some of the problems of the third world
