its players members of the whitchurchstouffville cham ber of commerce were told at an angles eatery breakfast meeting wednesday morning guest speaker bob panizza town chief administrative officer dis cussed the municipalitys adminis trative role in the community to about 40 chamber members mr panizza who has previously worked with the towns of rich mond hill and vaughan said staff at the local level often receives the biggest brunt of criticism from cit izens and said the job sometimes puts staff in an unenviable posi tion sports team but he said a municipality is like a sports team we use a team to see how suc cessful an organization is a municipality is the same set up taxpayers are the most important and are at the top then comes council chief administrative offi cer senior staff and in the pieces mr panizza said theres nothing wrong with maintaining a small town but we need some fresh money to help pay for roads that are falling apart and sewers that are collapsing mr panizza added however chamber member neil patrick said provincial and regional restrictions have kept whitchurch- stouffville from growth being a rural town with little growth is not from lack of effort from council its the province and region thats responsible for that mr patrick said and jack burrows asked if the town is lobbying these outside agencies to let our input be known mr panizza said the town is beating their heads against the wall talking to the region about getting on the big pipe but we need to have our goals in place first and the town is working towards that mr panizza con cluded fire calls up from 1 989 the whitchurchstouffville vol unteer fire department answered a total of 375 calls in 1990 up from 356 calls in 1989 according to a report from fire chief bill brown toping the list were false alarm calls which totalled 74 up from 58 in 1989- there were also 48 fires ranging from structural to chimney to garbage and car fires as well as51 vehicular accidents answered in 1990 the majority of calls came in during the month of april 38 fol lowed by june 34 the slowest month in 1990 was november with 14 calls responded to the report showed hazardous material calls were up
