p4 tribune voctober 17 1990 news item regional fire department debated wmft justifying a handout favoritism at the regional level has reared its ohsougly head in front of whitchurchstouffville again and mayor fran sainsbury pointing to a lack of potable water for a sizable segment of her con stituents is furious that some of our regional tax dollars are being con sidered for yorkfinch hospital which doesnt serve anyone in this area the mayor was up again before her regional colleagues in opposi tion to the plan for a 60000 grant to snidy an ambulatory care centre at yorkfinch hospital in wood- bridge the funds to be taken from regional reserves would help to establish the programs for the cen tre but regional adminstrative com mittee rhetoric about maintaining health standards dont amount to much when many musselmanlake and ballantrae residents are without a clean water supply and what of the three hospitals in york region how can york regional council justify a 60000 grant for a hospital outside the boundaries the only justification here is the j mayors anger big pipers keep tossing curve balls g ill bet a seagulls lunch that whitchurchstouffville will be the new home to york regions temporary dumpsite lets do the elimination thing we can pretty well foresee that vaughan will be excluded from the regions contingency landfill site search as it already houses the keele val ley landfill site near capacity now we know another expansion there is a nono because in order to protect this wealthy municipality from further expansion of its dump clay was extracted from gormley aggregates 26 miles away we can almost be sure that newmarket mayor ray twin- kibbles bits wwvwwa wwv tracy kibble ney golden boy of the presti gious and ridiculously vain 56 million regional centre will never allow such a thing to happen at his doorstep if any one has ever been labelled a nimby its mayor ray twinney besides that hes on the big pipe team and whitchurch- stouffville is fumbling balls out in left field how can we compete with a powerhouse of votes being batted at us from the big stouffvilleuxbridge tribune publisher editorinchief editor advertising director business are warming up their voting power and whitchurchstouffville gets called out at home every time while the big pipers march out onto the regional field whitchurchstouffville east gwillimbury and king town ship trail behind holding the bat bags for these shining sewage boys trying to keep up meanwhile we can be almost certain that georgina the only municipality to ship its trash to its own dump likely wont be chosen to hold the regions garbage either its too far north and georgina already has a dump so in the game of- elimina tion theres markham rich mond hill aurora east gwillimbury king and whitchurchstouffville left well im going to be brave and say markham and rich mond hill the two big shots left in the game will be elimi nated right off the bat the population is large and so is their voice votes go a long way at the regional table ok now we have aurora east gwillimbury king and whitchurchstouffville im going to immediately eliminate aurora too being as far as this land search study is concerned that has consultants being paid big bucks to find out which lands are good and which lands are bad for housing a dump i say get a grip it all comes down to votes at the region and we all know who has those consultant or no consultant whitchurchstouffville will be the home to york regions dis posable diapers decaying meat and all its other garbage until 1996 bet on it can someone please prove me wrong because i predict whitchurchstouffville will lose again whos the umpire in this game any way sandwiched amongst those rich boys is a benefit to behold and well east gwillimbury and king dont already have a burrow pit however the size sitting in their municipalities bonus for them i but here in whitchurch- stouffville there is such a pit at gormley aggregates now the company has let the town know they wont be vol unteering any dump classifica tions and has even stated the pit no longer contains clay but the environment min istry can do whatever it wants and could arbitrarily expropri ate this pit or one of the other pits in town for the purpose of a dump editors mail sdss lights overdue dear editor i played soccer in whitchurchstouffville from the time i was five until i was 15 our team then wanted to play nsl and since there were no lights in stouffville and some games started as late as 845 pm we were forced to join another club in york region i remember all those years hearing rumors how stouffville would eventually have lights for night games our team has played in late august when you could barely see the ball before the game was over there were times when the game had to be called because it was too dark to see now that the time has come and the money is going to be available for lights i cant believe that there were people trying to squash the project this was a dream of the original soccer association for years and they worked hard to make it a reality anyone who moved in on the south side of millard street could have seen the plans for the lights for the soccer fields and school track before they purchased their homes dont you think its time stouffville does something to benefit out door recreation for their kids i will be a senior next year and i am looking forward to again playing for stouffville under the lights sincerely travis white i
