funds from a weed harvest on an aeration sys tem council heard last week members of the worldwide environmental watchdog group working under the auspices of the lake musselman club said the purchase would save heritage from becoming another housing property and would continue a legacy said barbara norton co- chair of york durham sierra club the club also offered its support to the town and said the sierra club has a great deal to offer you mrs norton said we are eager to share with you our vast knowledge and we offer our support to council said mrs norton she added the group has the use of a hightech communications instantdata library that links the club to the colbymemorial library one of the best environ mentecology reference libraries in the world she said mayor angry over hospital grant request a grant from york region to the yorkfinch hospital will not benefit one single person from whitchurchstouffville said mayor fran sainsbury themayor is angry that are- gional committee has agreed to pay one third of the cost for an ambulatory care centre study to be located in woodbridge she told the tribune thursday that hospital isnt even locat ed within the boundaries of york region and they want to use the hospital reserve fund to give them a 60000 grant the mayor fumed the decision to allocate the funds was made at a sept 10 administrative committee meet ing the ambulatory care centre phase i will provide services through the specialists at york- finch general hospital in addition services such as outpatient dietary counselling community mental health and social work services will be pro vided a committee report out lines but mayor sainsbury said the care centre should be userpay since it provides services for such a small portion of york region citizens she also said that since the cen tre would be located in a rich municipality like vaughan it should be providing the funds the committee said the funds are necessary to meet health stan dards but mayor sainsbury rebuked the statement my residents in musselmans lake and ballantrae dont have potable water and that just doesnt seem to matter to the region shejsaid every time task for something it gets voted down this might be important to vaughan but not one person will benefit from it in whitchurchstouffville the 60000 funding still has to be approved by regional council at an upcoming meeting this valuable communications system could let us be of great ser vice to you and we would be disap pointed if you would not let us help she said meanwhile ken jobe another sierra club cochair said the club has already studied and investigated the possibility of an aeration system for musselman lake and said the results are not overly encouraging he said the purchase of the glen dale property would be far more beneficial to the town than an aera tion system and said buying the glendale land would be more wor thy of funding mr jobe also told officials that new environment minister ruth grier has been a longtime advo cate of the group and added the lake musselman club has kept close contact with the former envi ronment critic during the past year meanwhile jackie erickson hop ing to become a communications link between ratepayer groups and the tdvh urged officials to keep her posted on future environment- related plans for whitchurchstouf fville she noted the sierra club has already been working on reports regarding landfill issues the recent gormley tire fire tree and noise bylaws and soil preservation tech niques there are many issues that need attention of 1000 employee campaign coordinator yvonne hurst said town staff raised substantially more for the united way cause than last year but noted that is probably because this is the first year the employees had launched a strategy to raise money for the charity she added the 64 fulltime staff employees that serve the town made personal pledges and held a voluntary car toll last week to raise
