18yearold softball pitcher who played for both the provincial and national select youth fastball teams last summer says he wants to play for the indians of the kingston intermediate league but a softball ontario ruling states the stouffville resident must get a release from his local softball organization the whitchurchstouffville minor softball association wsmsa before he can sign on with the tribe back in february before stouffville announced they were going to have a junior team the indians gave me an offer i couldnt refuse with a j lot of great bonuses whereby theyd cover all my expenses and get me a summer job said evans but now that stouffville is planning to have a junior team im going to need a release from the wsmsa to play there evans says he has already made plans to move to kingston a 10 minute drive from inverary for the summer as of right now im moving down there i have already signed a kingston junior card but it will be up to kingston and stouffville to work it out if they want me down there inverary then theyll have to arrange s it evans said that wiile the indians represent a better career opportunity for him he wouldnt be disappointed if he had to stay in stouffville the indians are probably one of the top three or four junior teams in ontario and they have a chance of going to the allcanadian champi onships plus they have four tournaments lined up for the united states and i want to play some ball there but i dont mind staying here theres no bad blood i had made my decision to play for the indians before there was even a team in stouf fville if i stay here ive got my mens team in richmond hill the richmond hill merchants and i could play for the stouffville team as well but id have to give priority to the mens team evans says his ultimate aspiration is to play senior a ball i hope to keep moving up once you reach senior a they pay as much as 20000 a summer and its lots of fun thats the eliteof fastball stouffville men set for adult soccer adult soccer comes to stouffville this season as the stouffville town spurs senior mens team prepares to kick off its inaugural campaign the spurs who will compete in the newmarket arid district soccer league ndsl are the brainchild of bill perrie an exstouffvillite now living in aurora perrie who is also the vicepresi dent of the ndsl founded the team after being approached by several stouffville area people who wanted to see an adult team in their town the team has been working out indoors in the gymnasium of stouf fville district secondary school 1 since january in preparation for the season which is to begin the third week in may the stouffville squad will play its home games on the sdss soccer patch the spurs will see their first com petition however at the canadian national indoor soccer tournament in ottawa apr 28 to 29 an event which will include 120 teams from across canada perrie says hes pleased with the interest that has been shown in his team so far and expects a full con tingent of players once outdoor practices begin weve been practising friday nights at the high school gym because its the only time they could fit us in and that has hurt the turnout of players said perrie weve had from 12 to 16 players out most nights but should have another 10 or so when we can go outside and practice at other times perrie said his players range in age from 17 to 40 and that there should be a strong nucleus of stouffville based players on the team weve got about nine or 10 stouffville fellows now but were expecting more some are coming back to play in stouffville after playing in markham and elsewhere for several years due to their being no mens soccer here hopefully well be made up entirely of stouffville players even tually but at first well have to use a few imports perrie who said he will probably end up as playercoach of the spurs said his roster will include at least two members of the now defunct stouffville royals john and fred klein there will also be players who have played with other york region soccer association teams the spurs who have been led in practice by their nononsense train er dave webb a newcomer to takes area f volleyball title dickson hill public school captured the area f north mixed junior volleyball championship in a four team tournament at summitview public school last wednes day the winners went undefeated in four games outscoring their opponents73 casey spoorenburg and lee kea scored in the stouffvillemarkham teams 21 opening round win over georgina spoorenburg netted the only goal in his clubs 1- 0 shutout victory against scarborough in the semifinal it was bill neville with a pair and ken shaw adding a single in a 32 triumph over the friday nighters of markham the stouffyillemarkham squad prevailed in the title match forging a 10 win over maltoh on nevilles third goal of the tournament team spokesman lee kea felt his team had worked hard for their crown and that they had taken pride in their accomplishment were pretty proud of what weve done weve represented stouffville well and the players really like playing here
