making roads safe especially for some rural gravel roadways staff heard tuesday afternoon people are literally sinking into the roads every year its the same thing on vivian road and st johns side road people cant use these roads and cant even drive into their driveways its complete ly out of order the way repairs are being done claimed ward 1 councillor margot marshall but townclerk coordinator pat oakes said council has ignored staffs recommendations in the past for more money in road repairs in all fairness paul white- house director of engineering has brought forward motions to improve the roads but the funds arent there and council has not been allocating the money mrs oakes stated this is not a unique problem every municipality like east gwillimbury has this problem sheadded and fire chief bill brown said some residents should be review ing the status and safety of private drives and entrances into their homes as well its not only town roads that are a concern im more aware of private accesses the fire depart ment cant put our trucks in some driveways there might be a multimillion dollar home with beautiful gateposts and we cant council update protect them i cant even turn my truck around in some of them chief brown said mr whitehouse said the roads department is sanding and pound ing stones into roads that get ground into the surface as an extra precaution to safety we are making the roads as passable as we can mr white- house maintained mayor fran sainsbury agreed the flooding problem on some roadways is not unique to whitchurchstouffville army grant was for 50 the st johns group saves lives councillor tatone main tained and so does the salvation army each and every day retaliated ward 1 councillor margot marshall both grants were kept at 50 other groups who had previ ously requested funding but did not specify how much was need ed will not be paid until the request is received in writing the town will make contribu tions totalling more than 14000 to more than 30 groups as approved in the 1990 budget for grant allowances the above amounts do not include a 40000 onetime grant to the stouffville community track project currently learned last tuesday evening ward 4 councillor wayne emmerson earlier requested staff write the company regard ing the unused tanks he said have been empty for some time located on edward street beside the stouffville coop the tanks and equipment will be dismantled and removed by petrocanada products a divi sion of petrocanada inc from the stouffville location later this year according to a letter from the coordinator of equipment and safety the property was originally a petroleum storage plant owned by the company which hasnt decided what to do with the property yet confirms petro
