p4 the tribune wednesday february 14 1990 st york off the mark with injunction bid whitchurchstouffvilles voice at york regional council was finally heard among others last week when a bid by the big three to seek a sun day shopping injunction was quashed the big three markham vaughan and richmond hill tried to win approval to seek an injunction and stop sunday store openings until dealt with by the courts but that would be a foolish and costly duplication of what has already been done in peel what purpose would a similar injunction here achieve it would close the stores in the meantime but at considerable taxpayer cost any decision made by the court will be binding across the province and if the losing par ty launches an appeal which is likely the final decision will still affect all regions peel has taken the lead in seeking the injunction there is no justifiable reason for york to dip into regional coffers to achieve the same result news item whitchurchstouffville mayor fran sainsbury tires of york regions big three playing a numbers game gay pride day asks for a little too much i couldnt believe my eyes there they were in newspaper black and white a bunch of gays and lesbians lobbying out side queens park holding ban ners chanting kissing or doing whatever else homosexuals do besides flaunt their sexuality openly and shamelessly around the city and what do these people want oh nothing much just to have one 24hour day officially pro claimed gay pride day in their honor what for what do they want to prove we all know what they do so let them do it but why should we all have to acknowledge the fact that the gay community is proud to be gay kibbles bits tracy kibble do they have special plans reserved for such a day cant you just imagine it lets get with it i know people are gay i have a few friends who are gay but its not something the whole world should have to acknowledge i dont know many citizens who just casually accept the fact that their neighbor joe sleeps with sam or that joanne prefers stouf f ville uxbridge tribune publisher editorinchief editor director of advertising retail advertising mgr administration mgr dir of who are trying to cope with our fastpaced everchanging world of choices but would it be good to send a message to these sometimes con fused teens that society accepts homosexuality i applaud toronto mayor art eggleton for standing up to these people by turning down such a ridiculous request even if a respected govern ment official empathized with this group of people do they think one would actually promote something like this i think not theyre having enough trouble dealing with the abortion issue let alone taking a pro con stand on whether the ci ty should be proud of its homosexual population i am all for freedom of speech to each his own beating to a dif ferent drum and all that other stuff that makes us the envy of communistrun countries but it is getting out of hand the way homosexuals demand that society reserve a day so they can be proud of their sexual practices i think ill write a letter to mayor eggleton and request one day for a large group of people i know that sleep with the opposite sex were all proud of that too lets call it man- woman sex pride day or proud not to be gay day why should we let a these groups remind us what they do behind closed doors who cares if theyre proud of it if society celebrates these sexual practices by creating a special day were in for more of the same hollywood is already jumping on the gay bandwagon and easing to the gays demand to let it all out in the open are we going to be subjected to a sitcom next year with daddy daddy and adopted child going through the pressures of wonder ing who will play baseball and who will bake cookies for the poor dear that should be a lot of laughs and it wouldnt surprise me if it happened everyone is proud of things they do and many are worth acknowledgment but why do a group of gays want so desperate ly for society to be proud of them pride comes from within the right to be proud of a groups acts should not be the issue you dont see major chari ty groups staking claim in city hall to proud we raise money for the sick day proud i can grow a boston fern day or proud i baked my first chiffon cake day could be next on the agenda if ci ty council had succumbed to the gay pride day request what ever happened to the closet homosexuals should face the fact that they are not something canadians want to be proud of if gays want to be proud fine be proud but be proud quietly
