siderable national attention late ly with a project he claims is unrivalled anywhere on earth mr maude who admits to be ing involved with golf in every way shape and form is in the process of choreographing the development of a l9million golf resort in newfoundlands terra nova national park the former pga touring pro says he is working on the project through his own company golf plus along with a major contrac tor and both the federal and pro vincial governments when completed the undertak ing will include ah 18hole cham pionship course set among white water salmon rivers and an ex clusive 80suite hotel theres nothing like it on the planet boasts mr maude who says the resort is one of several hes involved with at the present time ive been all over the world and ive never seen anything like this the salmon rivers cut through the course and there are moose running out there and bald eagles flying overhead he says newfoundland is starv ing for golf courses and that the new facility will help fill a major gap there are currently only threeandahalf courses for 600000 people he says the ninehole course that is there now handles 30000 rounds of golf a year the resort is to be located right on the ocean on newfoundlands east coast the hotel is scheduled for completion in 1990 while the golf course will be ready to go a year later the project is in keeping with mr maudes aggressive style he is constantly researching and consulting the golf industry in canada and abroad and reports his company is currently study ing a scheme that would put a golf course on the black sea in the soviet union it would be russias first course mr maude says the need for new courses he insists is everywhere i did an indepth study for the ontario government last year and com piled a data base on golf demographics that is unique in canada he says the study concluded that it would take 64 more golf courses to properly service the existing need in southern ontario alone he says mr maude a former pro at the willows now john evelyns golf centre on 10th line south was instrumental in developing the maples golf course north of stouffville in 1985 and he brought the cpga to the spring lakes golf course in 1984 he also spent 10 years develop ing golf courses and resorts in the bahamas with ep taylor in the 1970s before returning to canada to pursue even greater challenges a
