traffic accidents or fire calls dur ing the labor day long weekend for the stouffville area the last summer weekend is usually one of the busiest weekends of the year for both departments especially since the fire department has taken on new the whitchurchstouffville fire department doesnt just fight fires anymore says veteran firefighter and fire chief for the past four years bill brown the ministry of the solicitor generals office has added four new mandates to the job descrip tion and duties of fire depart ments their newest respon sibility is learning training techniques involving died peacefully wednesday aug 30 at port perrys community memorial hospital mrs sandiford 72 was fre quently ill for about one year and then became bedridden about three weeks ago says her son ken sandiford coowner with his brother dick sandiford of stouffvilles a s construction her poor system just wasnt strong enough anymore and she succumbed to pneumonia mr sandifordvsaia mrs sandiford is described by her son as a superb mother who always made all our friends feel at home she was a very dear lady the sandiford name has strong roots in stouffvilles heritage starting more than 50 years ago when the young san diford couple myrtle ana hus- band harry moved to dicksons hill they then moved to the 6th line where the couple was hap py and remained for 49 years before mrs sandifords retirement eight years ago the active and respected woman worked at the post office for 23 years she is survived by husband harry sandy sandiford- sons bill and his wife anne of port perry ken and his wife kathy dick and his wife sally all of stouffville son daniel of toronto daughter norma- jean and her husband greg wilkin son of richmond hill and her sister jean mccartney of bolton the grandmother of 10 was to celebrate her 73rd birthday sept 19 she and mr sandiford would have also celebrated their 50if wedding anniversary this saturday funeral services were held in the chapel at
